How old was Jesus when the Maji visited?

Most traditions in many sects of Christendom have the maji visiting Jesus at the manger when he was just a baby. this however is not what the bible teaches.

First Joseph and the family were in a house in Bethlehem and not the cave anymore. They settled in Bethlehem.

Second the difference in meanings of the word babe and young child.

Babe in Luke 2 is brephos which means a new born.

YOung child in Matthew 2 is paidion which is a child or infant- 2 years and up. This is why Herod ordered all Children from 2 down killed to insure He had the new born king!

So Jesus was 2 years old or so when the astrologers from the east came and visited them.

2. Yes, but it was worth the wait. ...

Gold, frankincense, and myrrh were not cheap. It could be argued that these presents made Baby Jesus and his family comparatively well off for those times and place.

Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh: The Gifts of the Wise Men (Magi)

***snip***

A gold brick in today’s time is worth about $325,000. In the time of Christ, it would have probably been even more valuable. The spices (frankincense and myrrh) were also very valuable, and at this time, may have even been as costly as gold in terms of weight.

We don’t know how much gold or spices the wise men gave Jesus, but it would have been of great value even in small quantities. Therefore, by giving Jesus these gifts, it would have helped Mary and Joseph care for their newborn King. It also would have aided them in their journey to Egypt, and then subsequently, back to Israel.

3. Trips to Disneyland, Birthdays and Christmas gifts are wasted on newborns

Even Christ had a babyhood -- that was God's plan.

4. He may have been as old as 2, no older.

At 2 Rome took the census & afterward either Herod or Augustus Ceasar decreed the death of infant males 2 or younger. So the family escaped, some say, to Egypt.

They had seen the Magi come in from the Orient & we're jealous as to whom was given tribute.

The Magi's were ordered to be arrested, but upon hearing this, escaped back home on a different route at night.
