1. I don't want to waste seven minutes of my life with this moronic video, but I am curious...

have you latched on to some merry band of cranks who deny the existence of a historical Jesus?

Because actual serious academics (all thoroughly liberal and quite secular, but who do actual research and don't rely on Youtube mashups to conduct lectures) would beg to differ.

2. As the video makes clear, the consensus scholarly view is that there actually was a Jewish preacher

by the name of Jesus, without all of the voodoo miracles, of course. That view is being vigoursly challenged by scholars such as Richard Carrier who argues for the mythist viewpoint. Even Bart Ehrman, who does conclude that there was a real Jesus, contends that Paul's conception of Jesus was closer to an angel than a man.

4. Nothing to latch on to.

There simply is no good evidence that Jesus actually existed.
I figure some preacher named Jesus probably did exist, among the hundreds of others, and made a bit of a name for himself.
Not the son of God though. That whole story is so ridiculous and ripped off of older myths that it's laughable.

5. I actually consider the question rather uninteresting

So what if there was a zealot named Jesus actually preaching at the time and, maybe, executed by the Romans. If there were, clearly Paul and the Gospel writers simply took the basic story and grafted on the miracles, the resurrection, etc.

I've pointed this out previously, one can trace the morphing of Jesus from a divinely inspired preacher to a demi-god to Yahweh himself by reading Mark, then Luke and Matthew, then John. It just gets better every time it's told. Just like a myth.

So, whether there actually was an historical Jesus is pretty irrelevant.
