Given a recent alert for offending Yahweh (or Allah)

perhaps it’s time to remind our colleagues that your god (if you have one or more) is simply one among many and the fact that you worship a particular deity is purely a circumstance of where you were born.

1. On the other hand you could be respectful of other people's beliefs

and maybe you wouldn't get alerted.
There is a difference between disagreement and deliberately going out to offend people.

3. Was not an alert on one of my posts

I was on the jury.

I never attack people, as our Conservative colleagues do constantly. I attack superstition of whatever flavour. With our Creationist colleague who seems to have left the debate, for example, I have never attacked him, only his beliefs. OTOH, he has repeatedly attacked me personally.

8. I am speaking of attacking religious beliefs rather than those who hold them

If you would like to give me a counter example, please do.

Is no sin.

13. A common refrain from members of various cults but

I fail to discern what it has to do with pointing out the difference between mocking superstition and mocking the believers in those superstitions.

15. Your response was an aspersion

That religion was the sin. I pointed out that it was a system of unifying morality and ergo not a sin. A cult? One whose philosophy affects nearly all you do.

16. Not sure I follow how pointing out that Christians commonly distinguish the sin

from the sinner (or make that argument, at least) is an aspersion.

As to a cult, Christianity just happens to be the biggest one. The sentiments contained in what many consider the seminal text of Christianity, the Sermon on the Mount, originated 500 years earlier during the Axial Age. OTOH, Christianity maintains to this day many vestiges of theophagy as it’s central premise.

17. Back up two posts...

Not the, "love the sinner hate the sin remark."

What about god eating? Generally this doesnt enter into the everyday thinking of the Christian and in some sects not at all.

None of it changes the fact that you are who you are and act as you do because of Christianity.

18. On This One, I'm With Da Mann.

"There is a difference between disagreement and deliberately going out to offend people."

Maybe in your opinion, that sentence is a personal attack on you. If so, consider yourself attacked.

You and I have always gotten along. You were one of the very few who purchased my story on Amazon, and I appreciate it.

But you're being disingenuous when you say you only attack people's beliefs and not the person. If you say to a musician, "Your music sucks," he takes it as a personal attack and rightly so. The music is his life, his passion. If you put it down, you're putting him down. Same with people of faith. Their faith is their justification for living and behaving as they do. When you denigrate a person's religion, you denigrate the person.

And what do you get out of it?? What possible gain is there to you?? Unless the other person is a Muslim who wants to kill you, his religion is private and personal. Not your business.

If someone is preaching to you or trying to convert you, then yes, I'd say you have carte blanche to express your opinion. But who is doing that here at Discussionist?? You and SS start threads solely to offend fellow Discussionist members.

21. I enjoyed your application of realism to the Bible story very much

Your analogy to a musician and his work, however, is flawed. The music is the product of the individual, Christianity is not. Christianity is a societal construct as are, for example, political parties. Therefore, the analogy would be me, as a non-affiliated voter, criticising the Democratic Party.

14. Is that why thousands of Muslims daily are turning to Christ?

Is that why Chinese who never heard the name Jesus get saved by the millions every year and go underground with their faith?

Is that why Jews become followers of Jesus Messiah
Is that why Indians give us Vishnu and the legions of God to follow Christ?
Is that why heathen who oractice shamanism, voodoo, etc. get saved daily?

Because of the circumstance of where they were born?

I don't think so!

Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

I hope Richard Dawkins realizes that before He dies and gives His life to HIm-otherwise He will find out He is wrong and spend eternity paying for that tragic mistake!
