3. Why would you want to ban all right wingers?

Isn't the point of this site to have all viewpoints, rather than an echo chamber?

5. Not all

just the fringe elements, the birthers and the Obama haters.
Those that can carry on normal discussions about issues without resorting to name calling and hate filled rhetoric are very welcome however in the poll there was no provision as to type of right winger.

7. Okay. I agree.

I have had a few reasonable encounters with Republicans here. I scroll past the fringey ones. To be fair to all views, the fringey people (from both sides) have to be included.

The left wing nuts seem to get more of a pass

13. The wackos on the far right that I have seen are

just here to troll, which is why they get dumped. Disruption isn't discussion.

If there are left wing nuts trolling, and the post is insulting or a deliberate shit stir - alert on it.

we included the Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton and Bush II haters. Maybe all President haters?

35. " ... just the fringe elements, the birthers and the Obama haters."

Who would make the make the decision about which posters have the Fringe Element label slapped on them and which are acceptable?? You??

I believe that Obama does not have the best interests of the United States at heart. He is deliberately working to weaken our once-great nation, to greatly reduce its ability to defend itself, to make it "just another country," to ripen it for a potential socialist/Islamic takeover.

Do you consider me a fringe element?? An Obama hater?? One unable to "Carry on normal discussions about issues??"

I believe that Obama does not have the best interests of the United States at heart. He is deliberately working to weaken our once-great nation, to greatly reduce its ability to defend itself, to make it "just another country," to ripen it for a potential socialist/Islamic takeover. [/div

Then theres better forums for that kind of fringe thinking and if it were up to me i'd suggest a trip over to stormfront or City-Data. However on second thought i'd probably not ban you from this forum as i find these ultra rightwing viewpoints rather amusing and entertaining.eg;socialist/Islamic takeover? really? .

I do suspect that even if everything having to do with politics were removed, they would still somehow manage to get dragged into various discussions

Just the nature of the beast...

23. I never used to say anything

but now if I'm in a thread, or see a political OP I just post that - hey, this is the Fun forum. Political slap fight is that way ---->. That usually does it. We would have to have hosts to ban it, and I don't want to go there. We don't need that here.

36. I agree.

I have had a few really good chats with people on subjects like music, or fishing, or whatever, but as soon as that starts to gel and be happy, some fool comes along and craps politics in the thread. I think there is a pretty small percentage of posters (of all stripes) that can not see anything past politics, and I feel bad for them. It must be a terrible way to live. Some things are universal.

17. Most people can make their position clear in 5 comments.

The intent is to limit long vacuous exchanges that are usually hostile and clarify nothing.

Perhaps it could be "commenters are only allowed 5 responses to each other commenter".

Too many here resort to cartoons or memes when they can't win a discussion or are confronted with facts that conflict with their beliefs

If a post isn't a personal attack, I won't hide it. I am not going to play that game, because that borders on hiding for their view.

31. If a alert stalker looses the jury vote more than say, 3-5 times within a short period of time

They should get blocked for being able to alert for 24 years, same as when someone gets a jury vote against them looses the ability to start new threads

21. Get rid of the "tattletale" bullpoop.....

The whole "alerting culture" that we inherited from DU, serves to hobble our abilities to really seriously, and sometimes passionately, argue a subject...
When one must guard against offending some, often overly sensitive individuals, it makes it difficult...If not impossible, to properly express ones deeply held opinions..
Add to that, the concept that the system creates an opportunity for ones political adversaries to "gang up" and effectively silence the voices of those with whom they disagree, and you have a flawed system.IMNSFHO...
I realize that the entire "alerting" concept frees up the site owners from a good bit of potential moderation duties, but is it REALLY worth it...???

but each additional time-out becomes longer to the point of a ban-hammer at some point. If a poster can't learn after a few time-outs then they never will -- IMNSHO.

There are several posters right now on their 3rd or 4th time out since the site was started, they clearly have no desire to discuss issues in a rational manner.

We can both name several
