3. True.

Abbot Hor was one of a group of 4th century, desert hermits -- or "Abbots" as they are sometimes called. Some of their stories and sayings were preserved in old, Latin, texts.

I read about them in The Wisdom of the Desert - Sayings from the Desert Fathers of the Fourth Century, translated by Thomas Merton.

4. Speaking of desert Abbots, you might find the novel, A Canticle for Leibowitz, written by...

... Walter M. Miller Jr to be of interest. I first read it in '61 or '62...

7. At first I read your post as "A Cankle for Leibowitz" and I thought,

"Oh come on! Give it a rest".
