Why did Walmart treat me like a thief?

I don't like Walmart. I seldom shop there. The only thing I like and buy from Walmart is their Great Value Colombian Medium Dark Bright and Fruity coffee. Decent inexpensive coffee. That's it.

So, I was at Walmart this morning buying coffee. I used the self-checkout area. As I was scanning my coffee this creepy Walmart employee came over by me and stood over my shoulder the entire time. I paid for, bagged my coffee and grabbed my receipt then headed for the door.

At the door stood another creepy Walmart employee who demanded to see my receipt. "How are you today?...let me see your receipt." I just looked at him with a blank stare as he scanned my bag and receipt. "Have a good day.". I turned and said under my breath, '..fuck you too.'

Listen, I look as white a Republican as the next guy. So why the hassle? Is theft so prevalent at Walmart that they need to harass their customers? God help me if I was a person of color. I'll bet their creepy employees steal more than the public. Walmart treated me like a thief.

...I hate that place...I'm going to have to change my brand of coffee...

19. I've never had my receipt checked at a Walmart

I was at Walmart yesterday. Bought a cart full of items and no one checked my receipt on the way out.

21. Do they have a self checkout stand?

They also banned free plastic bags here so it makes it really easy to steal stuff. Environmentalists. 🙄

23. None of that here in PA

We have self checkout, stacks of plastic bags, and there isn't anyone even standing at the door. The bags are indispensable for cleaning out the cat box.

28. Yes, they have self-checkout and plastic bags

I don't use the self-checkout because I usually have too much stuff. And I bring my own canvas bags because they hold so much more.

Tell her, she was always polite and civil to me. I can disagree with someone, sometimes passionately, and still maintain a civil and respectful tone. I can't see how an exchange of honest views can occur while people are more interested in trolling and playing "gotcha".

7. I discovered that coffee too. Good stuff.

Self checkouts are a farce. I don't see how it saves on paying cashiers when they need to pay someone to make sure you paid for them. Still the stores encourage using them.
Fast lanes for under 6 items was better.

No standing around while some idiot ahead of me can't get off their phone, or can't find their money or card, or is too busy dealing with their out of control kids. I just walk up, scan my stuff, pay, and get the hell out.

12. It depends heavily from store to store

When you join Costco or Sams Club, you sign a waiver expressly allowing it.

You don't when you shop at WalMart. I have had friends seriously hassled. If you protest enough, they will often let you out without a receipt check. You may get trespassed for your trouble.

Sometime local police get involved, which is dumb. Its a civil matter. If that happens, demand a police supervisor. If they are moonlighting (approved or otherwise) most will back down. If not, how hard you push it is up to you.

Whatever happens, use record everything via live stream and get the store management involved. WalMart Corporate hates the negative publicity and will terminate people for it. Seen that happen a few times. Make sure they know about it too.

32. Always an option, it is what I do. Issues with it are also not limited to WalMart

Some of the receipt checkers and LPOs out there do seem to be seriously stupid or impaired. They are also terribly camera shy. There are any number of horror stories of Loss Prevention bubbas going over the top, even with a receipt. Standing up to them under such circumstances is okay by me. Shopkeepers Privilege is tightly defined and limited.

Innocent error only goes so far and some LPOs confuse themselves with law enforcement. The bad LPOs are often guilty of battery and unlawful restraint (one step short of kidnapping). If a former high school jock decides to get physical with an innocent combat veteran and gets the worst of it, I might not even hide my smile.

Video everything and let calm adults sort it out later is always my advice. The camera alone causes many people to behave better.

13. Don't take it personally ... a couple of years ago in my city there were a couple of locations that

had to employ cops w/ patrols sitting nearby because of so many thefts in these areas @ Wally World. Long storry short, these cops and patrols were employed while working for the municipality. At taxpayers expense.

They, the cops, began complaining about how time consuming the shear volume of theft from Wally World is - which also mean't they didn't have the manpower to go after much more serious crimes nearby.

So this was considered a stop-gap.

I agree w/ you totally, about the self-checkout machines. Now Wally World gets the customer's to do their employee's work for them, so they avoid paying benefits to them. I refuse to use the self-checkout stand for that reason.

If the store want's me to do their work, as a customer, then they can pay me or give me 'benefits'.

Once I threw my receipt into a bag and may have had 4 or 5 bags. Then when I got to the door I couldn't find it. They halted me for about 5 - 10 minutes and wouldn't allow me to exit the store. Then they informed me if I didn't have a receipt I would have to leave the store w/out them. Having just paid $60.00 for these items I began hurriedly looking for my receipt.

Found it between 2 plastic bags for an item I'd asked to be double-bagged.

Having drafted plans for over 4 Wally World's these last 10+ yrs, the store begins suveilling you the minute you walk onto the parking lot.

Beware the giant Yellow Bollards. There is alway one that contains antennaes from microwave to UHF for radio communication and CCTV. They maybe running criminal background checks on their clients, the customers.

But now Righty Republicon loves been suveilled. Soon we will become a suveillance state a.k.a. USSR & CCCP.

Compliments of the GOPERS.

Employee stood behind at to my right watching every move I made. I turned to him which was face to face by inches and politely ask him to move away from me. He did.

16. You don't have to go to Walmart for coffee. ...

Simply order it from Amazon. Amazon has a fantastic selection of ground and whole bean coffe from all over the world that simply dwarfs the selection at your local Walmart. The coffee you pick from Amazon can show up at your door in two days for free if you are a prime member.

17. When we head for town, either way, I set the buzzer off when I walk in the door.

I don't know what is different about the systems in those two stores but just keep walking going in and going out.

Screw them.

I was challenged one time and I handed them the bag to check and then went to customer service and returned $300 worth of merchandise. One of the assistant managers ask me why and I told her if I have to stop every time the damn thing goes off I will never be able to walk into your store. She didn't believe me so I showed her. Now, I just keep walking and if they want to call law enforcement they will have to physically detain me to keep me there and that will get them sued.

I have a lot of metal pieces and parts but no magnets that I know of. I have no clue why I set off the alarms in these two stores but I'm not stopping for them.

22. Three things may be causing your tripping the scanner.

1, your cell phone may be the culprit.
2, a bank card with the old style RF chip will certainly do it.
3, some wise ass planted the stores RF security tag on your person.

The third one is a lot of fun, happens to every liberal I know.
