So our stupid cat (one of the 4 really is stupid) tried to burn our house down Sunday morning.

After out last (and hopefully only) house fire when we rebuilt I built in a bar in our living room. On the short "L" section where you can't sit, we decided to build in a small two burner Induction Cooktop. We did something dumb last week. After Halloween we set the bowl out with the leftover candy in it on our bar. We weren't thinking. The bowl was stainless. Come Sunday morning, when we were both brain dead from not yet having enough coffee, we were both ensconced on the reclining love seat watching some mindless TV. The idiot cat jumped up onto the bar, walked across the cooktop, and turned the damn thing on. Since the metal bowl was there it stayed on. Suddenly it clicked in my mind. I look over and realize the bowl is smoking and the candy and plastic inside are on fire with the stupid cat standing there and watching!

Definitely our fault, but I'm damn glad it happened while we were home.

This is the same retarded cat that forced me to remove my Delta Touch Faucet since she pumped the well dry one night turning it on over and over and over again.

4. I'll just say this,

no one ever went into combat saying "Man, I wish we had a CAT!"

6. No but...

One of ours, oddly enough, would definitely fuck you up if you broke in. We actually do have an official Attack Cat.

9. We have both

A puppy, and 4 cats. We love them both for different reasons.

12. Dogs have turned stoves on too.

In my experience it's been dogs.

14. Our house is surrounded by high chain link fences and a covered enclosed porch. Dogs are out mostly.

When they are in they are confined to certain areas of the house.

Our dogs are pets to a point, but all bite trained the same as military dogs are. They are trained to the same standards as military "Patrol Dogs" are. That is about the lowest certification in the military's inventory now. Most Law enforcement dogs that live at home with their handlers have the same level of training and certification.

And they are not mals.

16. Great. The kitchen should be off limits to all pets. It's not a safe place for them.

The open floor plan of a lot of houses these days makes that a challenge.

10. In our house design we are putting safety switches on such things

Kind of like if you turn off the bathroom lights the curling iron outlet goes off. No worrying if you left it on when you get to work.

11. Extremely good idea.

I'd seriously consider putting Arc Flash Protection in your breaker box also.

13. IIRC Arc is code now. Required for new construction

Hubby is charging full speed ahead for his ranch. I would settle for an insulated house with garage parking and a fenced yard. Once we finalize the layout, I will contact some of the people I know who are into home automation. I had some in California, mostly advanced security cameras and sensors. Want to do lights and gates as well. The new place is not going to be cheap. We already have the land, so drainage etc is already well laid out. In the interim hubby is collecting ranch equipment. ATV, UTV, trailers and a Bobcat is pending. First thing we build is going to be an equipment building of some sort.

I have not commented on it much here, but the wildlife here is surprising. It is a good thing that Pooch has a caged exterior run. I see lots of predator prints outside it. I can only imagine the conversations they have.
