Traditional Male/Female relationship/responsibility roles.

If you are in a male/female relationship, do you tend to follow "traditional" gender roles in the division of labor? (If you're in a different type of relationship, hop in too, nobody can say we are not inclusive )

This subject sort of popped up in another thread, and my wife and I discuss this once in a while. We seem to be very "traditional" in how we split up tasks and responsibilities. As I mentioned in the other thread, we can each cover some of each other's responsibilities in a pinch, but can't do them as well, or as quickly and easily.

I cook a few dinners a week, can run a vaccuum through a living room, do a load of laundry once in a while, can get a room "man clean", change a diaper, and figure out which medicine to give a kid with a cold. When I do most of these things, I'm not quite sure if I'm doing them right.

My wife can assemble flat pack furniture, get a grill going, fix a running toilet and beat up the cable company for a better price, but all of them are done with some worry.

We didn't do it on purpose, but the kids we have raised to adulthood so far seem to be going this way too. Is it unusual for young people?

So, how about other DI posters? Traditional male/female roles? Modified roles? Something way different?

Run windows update.

Left, right, center, or just here for the memes, if you are running Windows OS, and have not been permitting Windows to automatically update, this would be an excellent time to do so. Not later this weekend, but right now. You don't even have to be that person that opens the bad email attachment or the person that surfs dodgy links to get hit with this one. If you connect to local networks or wireless networks where other users are locally connected, you have some exposure.

This has had those of us in the information security/cyber intelligence field very, very busy over the past 24 hours or so. My present clients seem to be in good shape, but then again, when all of their users start getting to their desks on Monday, who knows?

Start/Control Panel/Updates and Security. Go make sure.

I hope you guys enjoyed picking on each other this weekend.

I totally ignored politics, caught fish, and am home and about to grill up said fish. I'm going to ignore politics about all week and work. Next weekend, I just might catch more fish and grill them.

Hi All.

I hope everyone had an excellent Christmas/Hannukah, and the New Year is treating you well so far.

It's good to be back on DI.

Your turn, ladies.

Dyn DDoS Work of Script Kiddies.

This had skids written all over it. It has been fun to watch everyone's theories though. Russians, Iranans, Asange, China, Shadowy groups committed to destroying the US economy, and a few others.

One of the first questions to be asked when an attack happens, or when modeling a particular type of potential attack is whether or not the attack can be made by a generally clever teenager with an internet connection and a pre written script. Mirai? Definitely.

A man should be able to:

DI: There is much discussion about alpha males, and whatever which is kind of dumb. But, being an old fashioned sort of guy, I do have a short list of things that men should be able to do, or I'll find it kind of amusing. I'm not talking esoteric "well rounded modern fellow" lists, just basic stuff a guy should know how to do. I have run across a number of guys that have failed abjectly on my simple list, as I have had to help them.

A guy should be able to at least:
Fix a toilet that won't stop running, change an air conditioner filter, and cut a piece of wood to length.
Perform basic automotive tasks such as tire changes, or air filter changes.
Assemble a piece of flat pack furniture or a bicycle.

I know many women that can do most of these things too. I have raised a couple of them. I also understand that not all guys are going to know how to wire up a furnace, swap a ball joint, install crown molding, or weld, but I consider the previous list absolute basics.

DI, tell me your essential man-skills, or tell me why my list sucks.

How bad of a presidential candidate do you have to be,

to not have a high confidence of winning against a known liar who insults huge amounts of people, and only rode the coattails of others to get where they are?
