Does anyone here shave with a double edged safety razor? ...

(Of course that includes ladies as they shave their legs and other parts of their bodies.)

I started with a DE safety razor as a teenager (age 12, I have a heavy beard.) A year ago I decided to try this old "outdated" technology once again as I found Gillette Fusion 5 blade cartridges extremely expensive. I also tended to use one beyond where it started to lose its sharpness rather than replace it. Shaving was just a pain in the butt to me.

I was suprised to find there were a lot a newly manufactured DE safety razors available and the blades for them are dirt cheap I decided to buy an Edwin Jagger DE89 for $32 from (the cost of a pack of 8 Gillette Fusion blades).

I pay anywhere from $0.05 to $0.38 per blade in packs of 100. I can usually get 2 to 7 shaves from one blade depending on the make.

I found going back to the old style of shaving very easy. Perhaps it's something like riding a bike and once you learn you can't forget. Still I feel a person who had never tried this type of wet shaving could easily pick the technique up simply by watching the YouTube videos on the net. The secret is simply not to use excessive pressure but to let the weight of the razor do the work.

Well shaving has now turned into a hobby and I have five DE safety razors. I now actually look forward to shaving instead of avoiding it. I also find that I get as good a shave or better with a safety razor as I do with a five blade cartridge razor.
