Abortion poll

Technology now allows determining the sex of a child in utero. When technology allows for other identification of traits such as tendency to be overweight, or short, or gay, etc. Do you think it is morally acceptable to abort the child based on a subjective undesirable trait?

Oh noes! Bernies Sanders is racist?????

We've heard for years that any opposition to uncontrolled massive immigration of illiterate, non-English speaking, foreign nationals with completely different values and culture is

1. racist
2. xenophobic
3. nativist

And now poor Bernie has been taken over by the dark side. It must be the mind control nanobots the Koch Bros introduced into Bernie's coffee. Yeah that's the ticket.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)16% is flummoxing many left-wing activists by expressing concern that open immigration would depress wages for many American workers. “It would make everybody in America poorer,” Sanders said in response to a question on an open borders policy from Vox, a hard left online opinion journal.

“You’re doing away with the concept of a nation state,” Sanders said, “and I don’t think there’s any country in the world that believes in that.”

Sanders responded, “I think from a moral responsibility we’ve got to work with the rest of the industrialized world to address the problems of international poverty, but you don’t do that by making people in this country even poorer.”

Can we put one popular doomer myth to bed?

The California drought is NOT caused by global warming.
The CMIP5 models project that rising greenhouse gases should increase California winter precipitation but that changes to date are small compared to the recent drought anomalies. As such, the recent drought was dominated by natural variability, a conclusion framed by a discussion of the differences between observed and modeled tropical SST trends over the past decades.

Drought is of course nothing new to California. Figure 1 also shows that, despite the remarkable nature of the last year and last three years in California’s recorded history, these events are not without precedence. Figure 2 (below) shows the winter half-year precipitation history for all of California. For example the driest winter was 1976-77 and there was an extended dry period in the 1920s and 1930s (Mirchi et al. 2013), which included the second driest winter of 1923-24. The driest three-year period was 1974 to 1977, which included the driest winter and 1975-76, the fourth driest winter. There have also been extended wet periods, including one in the mid 1990s. This preceded a period of steadily declining precipitation up to and including the 2013-14 drought and part of the explanation of the recent drought will involve explaining the decline in winter precipitation over the recent two decades. However, over the entire 120 years of record, there is no clear trend towards wetter or drier conditions.

Much coverage and discussion of the California drought has raised the question of whether human-driven climate change is in any way responsible. ... It has already been shown that human-induced precipitation changes to date across North America are small compared to natural interannual variability (Seager and Hoerling 2014)

• The current drought, though extreme, is not outside the range of California hydro-climate variability and similar events have occurred before. Although there has been a drying trend in California since the late 1970s, when considering the full observational record since 1895, there is no appreciable trend to either wetter or drier California winters.

A good Salon article by Camille Paglia

A longer article, but a worthwhile read.
Camille Paglia takes on Jon Stewart, Trump, Sanders: “Liberals think of themselves as very open-minded, but that’s simply not true!”
... I think Stewart’s show demonstrated the decline and vacuity of contemporary comedy. I cannot stand that smug, snarky, superior tone. I hated the fact that young people were getting their news through that filter of sophomoric snark.

I don’t demonize Fox News. At what point will liberals wake up to realize the stranglehold that they had on the media for so long? They controlled the major newspapers and weekly newsmagazines and T.V. networks. It’s no coincidence that all of the great liberal forums have been slowly fading. They once had such incredible power. Since the rise of the Web, the nightly network newscasts have become peripheral, and the New York Times and the Washington Post have been slowly fading and are struggling to survive.

Historically, talk radio arose via Rush Limbaugh in the early 1990s precisely because of this stranglehold by liberal discourse. For heaven’s sake, I was a Democrat who had just voted for Jesse Jackson in the 1988 primary, but I had to fight like mad in the early 1990s to get my views heard. The resistance of liberals in the media to new ideas was enormous. Liberals think of themselves as very open-minded, but that’s simply not true! Liberalism has sadly become a knee-jerk ideology, with people barricaded in their comfortable little cells. They think that their views are the only rational ones, and everyone else is not only evil but financed by the Koch brothers. It’s so simplistic!

Now let me give you a recent example of the persisting insularity of liberal thought in the media. When the first secret Planned Parenthood video was released in mid-July, anyone who looks only at liberal media was kept totally in the dark about it, even after the second video was released. But the videos were being run nonstop all over conservative talk shows on radio and television. It was a huge and disturbing story, but there was total silence in the liberal media. That kind of censorship was shockingly unprofessional. The liberal major media were trying to bury the story by ignoring it. Now I am a former member of Planned Parenthood and a strong supporter of unconstrained reproductive rights. But I was horrified and disgusted by those videos and immediately felt there were serious breaches of medical ethics in the conduct of Planned Parenthood officials. But here’s my point: it is everyone’s obligation, whatever your political views, to look at both liberal and conservative news sources every single day. You need a full range of viewpoints to understand what is going on in the world.

City of Denver, Colorado Restricts Small Arms Ammunition

Antigunners never ever stop fucking with gun owners.
Yesterday Oath Keepers of Colorado received information from a fellow Oath Keeper that the Denver Fire Authority, in a secret closed door meeting, implemented a back door ammunition restriction. In this meeting, with no public input, Denver Fire enacted a policy that will restrict your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms by limiting the amount of ammunition you can keep at your residence. When they adopted the International Fire Code they slipped this in and refused to discuss it.

The real threat to society? Forbidden music.

North Korea orders house-to-house searches to confiscate banned music
Always concerned about possible threats to his regime, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly ordered music censorship to be extended, banning not only foreign songs but local tunes too, sources inside North Korea say.

The Korean Workers’ Party Propaganda and Agitation Department has begun circulating a new and expanded list of banned songs, which also decree the destruction of any CD or cassette tape containing prohibited content, a variety of sources have confirmed.

Concerns that certain lyrics could motivate popular dissent appears to be the motivation behind the new restrictions. “The local propaganda departments are getting inminban heads to collect cassettes and CDs from people’s homes and are combing through them,” a source speaking from inside the country claimed. “If even one song from the banned list is discovered, they incinerate the whole thing.”

Who does big brother now consider a criminal?

People that like to drink raw milk.
Raw deal? Asheville’s taste for unpasteurized milk
Twice a month, “Emma Gordon” (not her real name) pays a truck driver to make a run across the South Carolina border. The Asheville mom isn’t dealing in homemade moonshine or smuggling drugs, yet the product she brings to local families — raw milk — can’t legally be sold for human consumption in North Carolina.

Gordon knows of several other such cooperatives in the Asheville area, and a number of local farmers sell unpasteurized milk at local tailgate markets or straight from their farms, sometimes labeled as pet food (a loophole in the law allows raw milk to be sold for that purpose). Mostly it’s not advertised, so finding it is “a matter of knowing the right person,” she notes.

Each jar has a label that Kate painstakingly created to meet detailed guidelines from the state Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. The words “for animal consumption, not for human consumption” are emblazoned at the top, followed by a disclaimer that it’s illegal to sell raw milk for human consumption in North Carolina. The farm, she notes, spends several hundred dollars per year on testing and fees to stay in the state’s good graces.

Raw milk tastes great. Nothing better than filling up a stainless steel pitcher with milk straight from the cooling tank. And if you wanted cream just skim it off the top. Also makes great homemade ice cream.

Political correctness is a dangerous disease.

Most of the nation is hungering for people to speak the plain blunt truth. We are sick and disgusted with political correctness. This is part of the appeal for Donald Trump. I think the pent up frustration with pervasive idiocy of political correctness is going to the result in backlash against those individuals and institutions that wallow it.

Doomer scientist claims big oil is killing global warming scientists
Cambridge Professor Peter Wadhams suspects the deaths of the three scientists were more than just an ‘extraordinary’ coincidence
A Cambridge Professor has made the astonishing claim that three scientists investigating the melting of Arctic ice may have been assassinated within the space of a few months.

But he insisted the trio could have been murdered and hinted that the oil industry or else sinister government forces might be implicated. The three scientists he identified - Seymour Laxon and Katherine Giles, both climate change scientists at University College London, and Tim Boyd of the Scottish Association for marine Science - all died within the space of a few months in early 2013.

Asked if he thought hitmen might have been behind the deaths, Prof Wadhams, who is Professor of ocean physics at Cambridge University, told The Telegraph: “Yes. I do believe assassins possibly murdered them but I can see that I would be thought of as a looney for believing this.

Climate doomer scientists caught lying again.

Yet another example of the pure altruistic 'scientists' slaving away for pauper's salaries to save the planet. They'd never lie. They never make any money from grants.
E-mails obtained from the Environmental Protection Agency show that Harvard University, Syracuse University and two of their researchers appear to have falsely claimed a study supporting EPA’s upcoming global warming rules was conducted “independent(ly)” of the agency.

Across the media, the authors were innocuously described as simply university-affiliated “researchers.” After all, the researchers had declared they had “no competing financial interests” in their study. Both universities had issued media releases heralding the study as the “first independent, peer-reviewed paper of its kind.”

But a closer look at these claims of independence raises serious doubts. An online search of EPA’s web site revealed that Syracuse’s Driscoll has previously involved as a principal investigator in studies that received over $3.6 million in research grants from EPA. Co-author Dallas Burtraw, a researcher at the think tank Resources for the Future, had been involved in previous EPA grants totaling almost $2 million. Harvard co-author Jonathan I. Levy had been involved in over $9.5 million worth of grants. Co-author Joel Schwartz, also of Harvard, had been previously involved in over $31 million worth of grants from EPA.

Are we to believe that a group of researchers who had previously received some $45 million in grants from EPA, no doubt hoping for more in the future, could possibly not have any dog in this fight? It’s probably not necessary to ask how this slipped past the incurious mainstream media.
