Do you feel the love yet?

Tolerance, open mindedness, celebrating diversity, caring, and love -- liberal style.
I Am Not Going To Treat Trump Supporters/Voters Kindly. They Deserve Contempt.

There is no way to be civil to these bastards. I am sick of their snarky bullshit and hate. And I will not offer any of them any now or in the future. We probably need and ugly divorce in this country if it were possible. To support a candidate that habitually uses code calling for violence against another candidate is way over the line.

The are NOT nice people. They are all just frigging nuts.

Have any posters changed a policy position based on Discussionist?

I am curious to know if any posters have been swayed or had a change in policy opinion based on any discussions on this website.

It seems like the purpose of so many threads is to point out how the other side is wrong, stupid, evil, etc. I admit to being guilty of some of this too. Though I think it would be nice to occasionally have a non-confrontational policy discussion without the name calling.

I recently had dinner with a business colleague who is an ardent Bernie supporter. We discussed several political issues in a calm respectful way. It was a refreshing change from the antagonistic discussions here.

Hillary Clinton's schedule between now and the election.

Seems pretty light to me. Her campaign is holding lots more events where Hillary is not attending. But these are the only ones I could find showing Hillary attending.

The planet is SAVED! We can all relax now.
France becomes the first country to ban plastic plates and cutlery
PARIS — France has apparently become the first country in the world to ban plastic plates, cups and utensils, passing a law that will go into effect in 2020. Exceptions will be allowed for items made of compostable, biosourced materials.

Objections to plastic as a material are well known. For one, it does not biodegrade and only breaks down into smaller and smaller particles, which pose a significant danger for wildlife that cannot always distinguish it from food sources, particularly in oceans. Aside from ecosystem disruptions, millions of barrels of oil are used every year in manufacturing plastic bags and utensils, playing what environmental activists call a significant role in climate change.

In the words of French President François Hollande, the ban is part of a larger push intended “to make France … an exemplary nation in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, diversifying its energy model and increasing the deployment of renewable energy sources” -- starting, it would seem, with the forks and knives distributed at fast-food restaurants and the coffee cups in vending machines.

SNAFU: your government implementing liberal immigration policies

Another example of what the lib pols and lib press calls "thorough vetting" of immigrants.
More than 800 immigrants mistakenly granted citizenship
The U.S. government has mistakenly granted citizenship to at least 858 immigrants who had pending deportation orders from countries of concern to national security or with high rates of immigration fraud, according to an internal Homeland Security audit released Monday.

The Homeland Security Department's inspector general found that the immigrants used different names or birthdates to apply for citizenship with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and such discrepancies weren't caught because their fingerprints were missing from government databases.

The report does not identify any of the immigrants by name, but Inspector General John Roth's auditors said they were all from "special interest countries" — those that present a national security concern for the United States — or neighboring countries with high rates of immigration fraud. The report did not identify those countries.

Obama still using his well worn liberal playbook.
Obama Blames American Sexism for Hillary Clinton’s Low Poll Numbers
President Barack Obama suggested at a New York fundraiser that American society is sexist, which is why Hillary Clinton is struggling to beat Donald Trump in the polls.
“There’s a reason why we haven’t had a woman president–that we as a society still grapple with what it means to see powerful women,” Obama said during a speech on Saturday evening. “And it still troubles us in a lot of ways, unfairly, and that expresses itself in all sorts of ways.”

Of course the problem is never with a genius liberal candidate. If people can't support a liberal in every way it must be because they are a "basket of deplorables…. racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic.”

What the libs don't understand is after decades of using name calling in lieu of reasoned arguments, the vast majority of people no longer pay any attention to the knee jerk vituperative rants from liberals. It doesn't work anymore.

Je suis deplorable.

A vote for a Democrat is a vote to take away your guns.
Democratic VP Candidate Tim Kaine On Gun Control: “I can’t think of an issue I’d rather be aligned with than this”
n May 2000, Tim Kaine, then-mayor of Richmond, Va., used more than $6,000 in public funds to charter eight buses. The buses were used to transport city residents from Richmond to the anti-gun, and inaccurately named, Million Mom March in Washington, D.C. The Million Mom March was sponsored and organized by extremist gun control organization the Bell Campaign, which was later renamed the Million Mom March Foundation. The Bell Campaign supported a litany of gun control measures, including gun rationing, a ban on the possession of commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and their magazines, firearm owner licensing, and gun registration. In regards to the right to keep and bear arms, the Bell Campaign contended, “The Second Amendment does not, and never did, protect the private ownership of guns for private purposes.”

A long article with the Democratic VP Candidate's long long history of anti-Bill-of-Rights positions.

Former French President doesn't believe the climate hoax.
Sarkozy comes out of the closet as a climate skeptic
Presidential hopeful Nicolas Sarkozy reckons that climate change is not caused by man and that the world has far bigger problems on its hands than global warming.

Nicolas Sarkozy, who is fighting to regain the presidency that he lost to François Hollande in 2012, has finally come out of the closet as a climate skeptic.

Speaking in front of business leaders Sarkozy, a candidate for Les Republicains party primary in November, told them that man alone was not to blame for climate change.

“Climate has been changing for four billion years,” the former president said according to AFP. “Sahara has become a desert, it isn’t because of industry. You need to be as arrogant as men are to believe we changed the climate.”

OMG! Democrats are destroying the planet by releasing CO2 into the atmosphere.

Oh the humanity! You would think Democratically controlled city governments (Chicago, Boston, New York City) would be sensitive to the climate changes crisis. It is almost like they don't believe in global warming. Call the denier mayors now and let them know they are killing the planet!
Death by dry ice: How cities are using a chilling killer to zap rats
CHICAGO—Some of America’s biggest metros have unleashed a chilling—and seemingly effective—new killer in the unending urban war against rats: Dry ice.

Sanitation officials in the nation’s third largest city told USA TODAY they recently launched a pilot program at four Chicago parks to test the effectiveness of dropping chunks of dry ice—frozen carbon dioxide—into burrows to try suffocate rats as the dry ice sublimates from a solid to a gas.

Chicago began the experiment with dry ice in late August, following Boston, which became the dry ice pioneer when it launched its pilot in March, and New York City, which launched its test program in May.

Hope and change is taking hold.

Is 70 the new retirement age?
Forget about 62, 63, or 65. More and more Americans are embracing the new reality that is retiring at 70 -- or later.
retirement after spending years struggling through the daily grind. Unfortunately, a growing number of Americans may have to wait even longer to make their grand exit from the workforce. Although the average retirement age in the U.S. is just 63, according to a recent study by human resources consulting firm Willis Towers Watson, almost a quarter of Americans believe they won't be able to retire until age 70 or older. Worse yet, 5% are convinced they'll never be able to retire at all.

Even workers who plan to retire at 65 aren't so sure of themselves. Those surveyed admit that, while they'd like to retire at 65, they think there's a 50% chance they'll wind up working until 70.
