Anyone Remember "Earth Shoes"?

They came out in the early 70's when "hippie culture" was being commercialized.

They were sort of a loafer with the toes higher than tthe heel, which they claimed was good for you.

I never got a pair.

Wonder if they still make them?

Where are the great OP writers of Discussionist?

One thing I miss about DU is a few of the writers there were professionals in the real world (not referring to "that" Pro) who could write brilliant, thought provoking op's that were mini masterpieces.

Those on the conservative side no doubt have some of their own they hold in the same regard

It would be incredible to see a William Pitt or Manny Goldstein go head to head with their conservative opposites in a civil, yet heated fashion.

Will Discussionist be the new political O.K Corral?

Was watching a mob - not a "protest", but a MOB of childish, hate filled supposedly grown men and women blocking busloads of kids, screaming their lungs out wih vile invective.

For Christs sake, these are CHILDREN!
Who had little to no control over coming here or not.
And no doubt, most of that angry mob likely call themselves "Christian"...

"Suffer the little ones to come unto me"

"Any who would harm one of these, it would be better for him to have a millstone tied around his neck and cast himself into the sea"

I am awestruck.
Awestruck that I am seeing such meanness and mob mentality in fellow Americans in this "digital age" of information, where there is no excuse for mot knowing any better.

And others living in desperate lands see this as all of us
And we wonder why they want to kill us

the librarygirl menace

When you get right down to brass tacks, librarygirl could be anyone - she could be me... she could be YOU!

She could be your favorite, most beloved poster - until the full moon peeks from behind the clouds, and the transformation begins...

And she sheds the veneer of decency and clique security, and prowls the steppes, looking for fresh warm blood...

She could be your kindly grey haired old uncle Ned. She could be your kindly old uncle Neds golden retriever!

We must circle the wagons and remain always vigilant, my friends. Can you hear her call, lonely and distant in the summer breeze?
