How Amateur Radio Sank the Titanic

"The limited scope of early radio technology was further complicated by its popularity with novice operators, who neglected to keep airwaves clear for official messages, and often maliciously interfered with transmissions. Professional radio operators had struggled for years with amateur operators (derisively called “hams” for their “ham-fisted,” poor Morse code skills) interfering with messages. Many of these amateur operators were younger than twenty years of age, and considered it good fun to play practical jokes on the navy by delivering false messages. They also tended to clog the large bandwidth of spark transmitters, making it difficult for others to send crucial messages."

Interesting read.

Fleetwood Mac when they played blues

I forgot this existed.

It's as good as I remember when I was knee deep in lysergic.

No customer service at Ebay

Can't talk to a service rep, I had an issue and reported it, no reply, not even a "we're looking into it" notice.

The thing seems to be flying on autopilot with no one at the wheel.

I'll bet ripoff artists have taken note and are figuring out new scams to take advantage of the situation.

Cute Austrian (?) Classically trained flutist reviews "Yethro Tool"

"You forgot to use the pinky!"

She is obviously enthralled, though!

"He snorts during Bach!"

Ian Anderson was self trained.

Edit - check the speaker in the photo - that's an Aussie made speaker to this day sought after by guitarists! (The bigger versions.)

I saw this on Etsy, it caught my eye because of the weird dial, turns out it has all the a.m. stations of the day in Australia for every region on the dial! ("NSW" is New South Wales, I think... )

Turns out it may be a DX masterpiece. Tuned RF with a huge ferrite bar, enhanced in some way and called a "Signalmaster" tuning system, 2 diodes, a high flux speaker, and the cabinet designed to give it a "tube radio" sound. Kind of a G E. P-780 on steroids.

It makes sense, you want a radio like this if you are in an area where the nearest neighbors are Kangaroos and black mambas!

Takes an obsolete 9 volt battery the size of a small lantern battery, but I can make one. This also makes sense, you want a large capacity battery for power out scenarios.

The big chrome grill is pure eye candy.

Made for Philips in Australia

Seller said it was her Dad's, and she is "chuffed" that I plan to revive it. (She is in Australia.)

None of my collector friends have ever seen this.

The price was only $26 U.S., but the shipping was $60, and will be delayed due to limited flights.

Another bummer is she said the tuner isn't moving the indicator. Broken dial strings are a bitch. Hopefully, it's just slipping.
