The New York Times reports that when Nancy Pelosi was asked whether she considers herself President Trump’s equal, she replied, “The Constitution does.” It’s difficult to say which is more staggering, the ignorance or the arrogance of that boast.

Venezuelas Lessons for American Socialists

-- It’s hard to overstate how disastrous the reign of Hugo Chavez and his successor Nicolas Maduro has been for Venezuela. A recent series of Bloomberg articles vividly depicts the hellish, never-ending struggle for survival in Caracas, the country’s capital. Hungry children roam the streets, people are fleeing the country, health care is almost nonexistent, violence is endemic, even water is scarce. Chavez’s so-called Bolivarian revolution took a peaceful, middle-income country and transformed it into a nightmare that puts the ruinous Soviet Union of the 1980s to shame.

It’s important for other countries — including wealthy ones like the U.S. — not to ignore Venezuela, but to use it as a cautionary tale. Politicians like Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have embraced socialism, as have many young Americans. But what are the lessons of Venezuela? Why did the country become such a basket case?

The Bolivarian revolution’s defenders often make excuses for the Chavez-Maduro regime by claiming that the country’s penury is the result of outside forces. For example, some argue that it was the fall in oil prices in late 2014 and 2015 that sunk the country. Venezuela is a petrostate — petroleum products constituted about 95 percent of the country’s exports in 2014, so the price decline was naturally a blow.

But although lower oil prices undoubtedly made things harder for Venezuela, they can’t be the primary culprit in the collapse. Venezuela stopped releasing many of its economic numbers in 2014. But other petrostates — Saudi Arabia, Russia, Nigeria, Angola and Kuwait — saw their incomes stagnate or even fall after 2014, but they didn’t experience anything remotely like the devastation that has hit Venezuela:

Washington Post Op-Ed Contributor Chants 'Death To America,' Report Says

Liberals seen nodding in approval

A report published on Wednesday alleges that a video has emerged of Washington Post op-ed contributor Mohammad Ali al-Houthi chanting "death to America" while firing a rocket from his shoulder.

"The Washington Post contributor chanted: 'Allah is the greatest. Death to America. Death to Israel. Curse the Jews. Victory to Islam,'" Conservative Review's Jordan Schachtel reported. "He has also taken to his unverified but media– and think tank-cited Twitter account to repeat the infamous Houthi slogan."

The video was posted to Twitter by Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Michael Doran, who served in the administration of President George W. Bush as a senior director in the National Security Council.

Canadian journalist 'threatened by Islamic party'

Toronto Sun reporter Tarek Fatah in an article entitled Coming soon, believe it or not -- Islamic Party of Ontario, reports "blatant threats" directed against his person by the head of "Canada’s newest aspiring political party, the Islamic Party of Ontario."

"It operates with a mandate to introduce Islamic rule in Ontario and Canada because, according to the fledgling party, 'We understand and believe that Islam is the native DEEN (religion) of Ontario and Canada',” Fatah writes.

The Islamic Party of Ontario is headed by Jawed Anwar, of the Toronto neighborhood Thorncliffe Park.

In a column posted at the end of October targeting American activist Laura Loomer, Anwar described Fatah as “… Islamophobe Tareek (sic) Fatah in Toronto Sun. Tareek is an open enemy of Islam and a hate-purveyor.”

Fatah explains: "Non-Muslim readers, even police and politicians, would not know the significance of the allegation, but every Muslim on earth is aware of the implications of accusing a Muslim of being an ‘Islamophobe’ or being 'open enemy of Islam'.

"An allegation such as the one labelled against me is the equivalent of declaring me an ‘apostate,’ which makes it a duty of other Muslims to kill me and thus secure a place in Paradise for themselves," Fatah writes.

New York Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and California Rep. Ro Khanna, both Democrats, announced Wednesday they will vote against presumptive incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s rules package because they say it hinders progressive policies.

“I will be voting NO on the Rules package with PayGo. It is terrible economics. The austerians were wrong about the Great Recession and Great Depression. At some point, politicians need to learn from mistakes and read economic history,” Khanna wrote on Twitter Wednesday

New Congress to Study Slavery Reparations

Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee plans to reintroduce a bill that would create a committee to look at financial compensation for blacks.

“It’s a commission to study the issue of what was the economic impact of the work of slaves and how does it translate in the 21st Century. And what we want to do is to build a narrative, a story of the facts and out of that be able to access how we repair some of the damage,” Jackson Lee recently told Nick Ballasy

“When you look at urban blight, when you look at schools in inner cities and rural communities that are not at the level of excellence that they should be, when you look at support for , all of that will be part of understanding that whole journey and that whole economic journey,” she added, according to JP Media.

Wow, I didn’t know there were any Former Slaves still living.

Problem is Slavery wasn’t Illegal so there isn’t any reparations due

Amazing considering Sheila is named after the 2 best Confederate Generals
