Historians Irked By Lin-Manuel Mirandas Hamilton Musical Plot Counter Attack

Gee Vice President Pence, please don’t put us back in Chains

NEW YORK (AP) — Ever since the historical musical “Hamilton” began its march to near-universal infatuation, one group has noticeable withheld its applause — historians. Many academics argue the portrait of Alexander Hamilton, the star of our $10 bills, is a counterfeit. Now they’re escalating their fight.

Ishmael Reed, who has been nominated twice for a National Book Award, has chosen to fight fire with fire — collecting his critique of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s acclaimed show into a play.

Reed’s “The Haunting of Lin-Manuel Miranda” is an uncompromising take-down of “Hamilton,” reminding viewers of the Founding Father’s complicity in slavery and his war on Native Americans.

“My goal is that this to be a counter-narrative to the text that has been distributed to thousands of students throughout the country,” said Reed, who teaches at the California College of the Arts and the University of California at Berkeley and whose latest novel is “Conjugating Hindi.”

Reed, whose play had a recent reading in New York and who is raising money for a four-week production in May, is part of a wave of “Hamilton” skeptics — often solitary voices of dissent amid a wall of fawning attention — who have written journal articles, newspaper op-eds and a 2018 collection of essays, ”Historians on Hamilton .”

Miranda’s glowing portrayal of a Hamilton who celebrates open borders — “Immigrants, we get the job done!” — and who denounces slavery has incensed everyone from professors at Harvard to the University of Houston to Rutgers .

They argue that Miranda got Hamilton all wrong — the Founding Father wasn’t progressive at all, his actual role as a slave owner has been whitewashed and the pro-immigrant figure onstage hides the fact that he was, in fact, an anti-immigration elitist.

“It’s a fictional rewrite of Hamilton. You can’t pick the history facts that you want,” said Nancy Isenberg , a professor of American history at Louisiana State University who has written a biography of Aaron Burr and is the author of “White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America.”

It’s not just the portrait of Hamilton that has drawn fire. Critics also say Miranda’s portrait of Burr is horribly distorted and argue that Hamilton’s sister-in-law, Angelica Schuyler, was in no way a feminist, as she is portrayed in the musical. Reed considers “Hamilton” so problematic that even edits to it wouldn’t help. “I think the corrective would be to close the show,” he said.

Reed’s own play borrows from Charles Dickens in portraying a naive Miranda being visited by a succession of ghostly slaves, Native Americans and indentured servants — people Reed argues never made it into the Tony-, Grammy-, and Pulitzer-winning musical. “What I tried to do was to cover the voices that were not present onstage,” Reed said.

Reed, who has not seen “Hamilton” but read it, criticizes the musical as just the latest piece of entertainment that is sympathetic to slave owners. “I say this is a successor to ‘Gone With the Wind,‘” he said. “But at least in ‘Gone With the Wind,’ Hattie McDaniel had a speaking part.”

In Reed’s play, Hamilton is unmasked as a slave owner who once worked for a slave trading firm in St. Croix. “You’ve been up to your blue eyes in the slave trade from the time you were a child,” he is told. A slave tells Miranda that the Schuyler family, which Hamilton married into, were brutal slave owners and life under them was “no damned musical comedy.”

A horrified fictional Miranda is eventually convinced by the evidence. “I have to undo the damage that I have done,” he wails at the end. “Because of me, thousands of school children are trapped intellectually in the same lies as I was.”

Perhaps the true villain of the piece is historian Ron Chernow, who wrote the award-winning biography of Hamilton that Miranda relied upon. (“You should have read books by black people,” a slave tells Miranda in Reed’s play.) At the play’s conclusion, the fictional Chernow advises the fictional Miranda to stop making a fuss and just enjoy their “good hustle.”

Chernow has declined to comment on Reed’s criticisms, and a publicist for “Hamilton” and Miranda also declined comment.

However, Miranda has said in interviews that he felt a responsibility to be as historically accurate as possible but that “Hamilton” is necessarily a work of historical fiction, including dramatizations and imprecisions.

Los Angeles Battling Typhus Epidemic

The consequences of putting social justice before public health

Now, a Los Angeles City Hall official is one of the latest victims of typhus, and the disease continues to spread across Los Angeles County.

For months, LA County public health officials have said typhus is mainly hitting the homeless population.

But Deputy City Attorney Liz Greenwood, a veteran prosecutor, tells NBC4 she was diagnosed with typhus in November, after experiencing high fevers and excruciating headaches.

“It felt like somebody was driving railroad stakes through my eyes and out the back of my neck,” Greenwood told the I-Team. “Who gets typhus? It’s a medieval disease that’s caused by trash.”

Greenwood believes she contracted typhus from fleas in her office at City Hall East. Fleas often live on rats, which congregate in the many heaps of trash that are visible across the city of LA, and are a breeding ground for typhus….

Last October, Mayor Garcetti vowed to clean up piles of garbage throughout the city to combat the typhus epidemic.

The Mayor allocated millions of dollars to increase clean-ups of streets in the Skid Row area, known lately as “the typhus zone.”

But four months later, the I-Team documented huge piles of garbage just outside the “typhus zone.”

Ilhan Omar-Terrorist Attacks are our own fault

That headline might overstate the case, but only slightly. In 2013, left-wing activist (now Congresswoman) Ilhan Omar was interviewed by Ahmed Tharwat, who–for some reason–had a television show on public television in Minnesota. What sort of a guy is Tharwat? His Facebook page includes this delusional headline: “Winston Churchill killed as many as the worst genocidal dictators of the 20th Century, says Indian politician.”

So that’s the context. Omar’s interview took place in the immediate aftermath of the 2013 attack on a Kenyan shopping mall by the Islamic terrorist group al Shabaab, which originated in Omar’s Somalia. Hence the interview. I wrote about that horrific terrorist attack here and elsewhere. The al Shabaab attack was brutal, as I reported:

Soldiers told of the horrific torture meted out by terrorists in the Nairobi mall massacre yesterday with claims hostages were dismembered, had their eyes gouged out and were left hanging from hooks in the ceiling.

Men were said to have been castrated and had fingers removed with pliers before being blinded and hanged.

Children were found dead in the food court fridges with knives still embedded in their bodies, it was claimed.

Photos at the link confirm the horror of the Islamic terrorist attack. It is revealing to compare the appalling facts of the shopping mall attack with the dispassionate, liberal treatment it got from Ilhan Omar and her host.

You really should watch the whole thing if you are interested in Ms. Omar’s role in contemporary politics. The short version is that she blamed the U.S.–her country, ostensibly–for al Shabaab’s shopping center massacre. Omar said:

Usually most people want to not look internal and see what their actions that makes another react. For us, it’s always ‘I must have not done anything. Why is it happening to me?’ Nobody wants to take accountability of how these are byproducts of the actions of our involvement in other people’s affairs.

Right. Al Shabaab massacred dozens at a Kenyan shopping mall because of “the actions of our involvement in other people’s affairs.” How does that work, exactly? Don’t look to Ilhan for a coherent explanation. She isn’t very bright. More important, she has chosen a side, and it isn’t ours.

Sadly, Omar is not alone. The socialist it-girl, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, is swooning over the notorious British anti-Semite Jeremy Corbyn:

Anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism are breaking out across the American Left. I dunno, it might just be a coincidence. But I doubt it.

Am I the only one to fear that Civil War II is coming?

Kamalas Ex-Lover Drops Bomb On Campaign: Ill Have To Leave Country If She Wins

Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential hopeful, isn’t getting any help from her ex-lover, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. The 84-year-old just dropped a new bombshell on the Harris campaign, divulging intimate details about what transpired between them. “I’ll have to leave the country if she wins,” says Brown after disclosing new insights into Harris’ past. You don’t want to miss this.

Willie Brown is an old Democratic operative, and he is using Kamala Harris’ presidential run as a means to get back in the limelight. Who can blame him? By all accounts, the California Senator used Brown to launch her political career, and sometimes karma does catch up to people like Harris.

The former mayor says he thought he was helping his ex-lover by posting his column titled, “Sure, I dated Kamala Harris. So what?” Brown feigns shock that his post didn’t put the rumor mill to bed once and for all. “I thought that little item would put the issue to rest. Not quite,” Brown writes.

Yet, he is claiming the affair was no big deal and would have been “just a chuckle” among “us locals.” Hardly. Then, the slimy Brown reveals, “Did I say that besides me helping her, she helped me? I honestly don’t think I would have made it through my first grueling run for mayor without her smarts and support.”

“Six months ago, it would have been just a chuckle among us locals,” adds Brown, referring to his affair with Harris. Let’s recall Brown was married and having an affair with the much younger Harris during his run for mayor of San Francisco. When he won, Harris was on stage right next to him and gave him a hat that said “Da Mayor.” His wife was off to the side.

“She loved me, and I loved me. It was a perfect relationship,” Brown says. “Now she’s happily married to a great guy. And if she gets elected, I’ll probably have to leave the country,” the 84-year-old concludes. Now, why would he have to leave the country?

It’s common knowledge now that a 29-year-old Harris took up with the married 60-year-old Brown who was then the up and coming Democratic rising star in San Francisco. The disgusting truth of how Brown set Harris up with lucrative jobs is going to come back and bite her now. Brown is ready to spill the beans on Kamala Harris, that’s why he says he may have to leave the country if she wins.

Harris slept with Brown for one reason; she used the corrupt San Francisco mayor to launch her rise to power. Daily Caller reports, “As Brown’s time as speaker drew to a close in 1994, he named Harris to the California Medical Assistance Commission, a job that came with a $72,000 annual salary. Brown had previously appointed her to the state Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board.”

She “was described by several people at the Capitol as Brown’s girlfriend,” the Los Angeles Times reported at the time. Although that job paid nearly $98,000, Harris’ term was set to expire in five weeks when Brown tapped her for the Medical Assistance Commission slot. That body met only monthly, and the $72,000 position was not considered a full-time job. But that’s not all.

The Nazification of the Democrats

In America’s current political climate, Democrats are making frequent use of terms they understand poorly at best. To silence debate and criticism, Democrats routinely employ labels such as “Fascist,” “Nazi,” or “racist” to shut down and intimidate their political targets. Ironically, however, as Democrats engage this way they are quickly adopting the very characteristics of those groups they supposedly despise.

Most notably, the Democrats increasingly display anti-Semitism along with their hostility to Christianity, traditional American values, and individual liberty. The recent revelation that Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) tweeted in 2012 that Israel had “hypnotized the world” is a clear indication of where the Democratic Party is headed—and why Americans should worry.

Beginning with Omar’s tweet about Israel “hypnotizing” the world, the congresswoman’s sentiment is a common theme in Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. In the 1925 screed that became the centerpiece of Nazi thought, Hitler routinely accuses Jews of undertaking a “campaign of lies” while lamenting the supposed “ignorance of the broad masses” and “narrow-mindedness of the upper classes” about Jews . While Democrats and the Left routinely attempt to distance their hatred of Israel from anti-Semitism, their opprobrium of the Jewish state similarly parallels that of the late Nazi führer. In Mein Kampf, Hitler accuses Zionists of wanting a Jewish state in order to have a “central organization for their international world swindle.” Omar sounds exactly like a real Nazi.

The freshman representative’s subsequent attempt to apologize and deflect by claiming that, “it is important to distinguish between criticizing a military action by a government and attacking a particular people of faith,” makes little sense upon even a moment’s reflection. Imagine a member of Congress saying the Vatican “hypnotizes” the world while committing evil, and then turning around and claiming no ill will towards Catholics. Similarly, one cannot claim to hold no prejudice towards Japanese while also advocating explicitly hostile policy towards Japan. The fact that Omar now sits to the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is openly hostile to the only Jewish country in the world would make any apology meaningless while simultaneously making anti-Semitism at least an aspect of U.S. foreign policy. Unfortunately, Democrats cannot seem to fathom the possibility that someone can embrace Nazi thinking while not being white or German.

Omar’s remarks are only the latest indication that anti-Semitism finds a happy home among the Democrats. Barack Obama’s 2005 photo with Louis Farrakhan was kept secret for years. A notorious anti-Semite, Farrakhan similarly parrots Nazi sentiment with statements equating Jews to “termites” and parasites. While Obama has since denounced Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism, the Nation of Islam leader’s notorious Jew-hatred long pre-dates the 2005 photo. Obama cannot exactly plead ignorance as to the Nation of Islam’s hatred of Jews, and photos do not lie. If anything, the 2005 photo-op is only an early marker of the casual tolerance of Nazi thinking among high-profile Democrats.
