Lana Del Rey is unique & will have the #1 CD June 17 release-despite the internet bullying campaign

Lana Del Rey is Unique. One of a kind like Brian Wilson.Roy Orbison,Elton/Bernie,Piaf, Nancy Sinatra

and she has been up against the largest internet bullying campaign for all things that no male singer would have had to endure nor any male actor

bullying sexist critics have complained about her creating a persona, yet,
not David Jones aka David Bowie aka Ziggy Stardust
not LL Cool J aka Todd James Smith
not Marion Morrison aka John Wayne (who so knew he was Marion and not John that he asked people to call him Duke)
not Archie Leach aka Cary Grant
not Norma Jean aka Marilyn Monroe
not Robert Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan
not Leonard Slye from Chigago aka Roy Rogers
not even the younger, newcomer Lorde aka Ella O'Connor whom critics love because they molder her

bullying critics have complained about her changing styles yet
Freddie Mercury
BEE GEES
Beatles-from silly love songs to changing the world (and talk about costumes)
Paul Simon/Art Garfunkel started as Tom and Jerry and were acoustic til a dj added electric guitar and Sounds of silence made #1
and so on and so forth
Kate Bush-who was also unique and mentored as a young girl by David Gilmour only releasing her first album years later from when Gilmour signed her and her style was developed

Lana Del Rey (real name Elizabeth Grant) is going to have the #1 album when it is released in two weeks and a few days "Ultraviolence." and her slow building Born to Die then Paradise EP have achieved 1 million in sales and has remained on the Top 100 album(cd) charts for over 118 weeks now.
Ultraviolence was a term used in the short book by Anthony Burgess(c) and later Kubrick(c) film "Clockwork Orange"

She has invented her own personal persona and style, and writes 98% of all her lyrics, her music and the concept behind her videos and especially the Tropico short film that comprises 3 songs, 3 recitations,
poetry (Walt Whitman, Ginsberg) mixed in with John Wayne/Marilyn/Elvis

Any David Lynch fan should love the music, style and visual films of Lana's.

And the internet bullying is subsiding and again, would not have happened to any male artist making it sexist.

And most important-
she has written and sung over 325 songs since 2007, most of which can be found on Youtube
and done some important covers

Summer Wine (the Nancy/Lee Hazelwood song) that she sings as duet with her fiancé, barrie formerly in the group Kassidy and now singing as Nightmare boy

and her version of Leonard Cohen's Chelsea part B
(which Cohen wrote as a tribute to his friend and one time one day lover Janis Joplin and had two versions
A, and then part B which was the later version after Janis died.

and her new album is produced by Dan of Black Keys, whom she won over after he too was swayed by the internet bullies without knowing her the person.

There is a lyric in her song "Americans" that applies to her-
she writes
"Everybody wants to go fast
but they don't compare
I don't really want the rest
only you can take me there"
male critics wanted the next Madonna, the next Britney, the next this or that.

While most singers now want to be the next Lana Del Rey (including Miley and Lorde who acts like she is the little sister.)

Lana just sings in her live shows. She doesn't do a dance act, she is in the vein of the singer songwriters who stands and the microphone and just sings, live. Not autotune, and her voice has like Kate Bush's a very wide range. Atmosphere of a smoke filled jazz club (and she smokes and does so onstage too).
Sinatra just sang. Ella just sang. Louie just sang and played. Bing just sang.
A throwback to a day long gone.

BTW- Lana takes care of her two sibblings who live in her house, and has overcome an addiction in her teens
and has a fascinating life story. (and yes her father has money. So too did Bob Dylan's and Paul and Artie had very comfortable upbringings in NYC.

If you don't know her, listen to her music and enjoy the "Ride" (which has a 10 minute video will add that to this thread after the first two below-

here is West Coast the first single from Ultraviolence (and picture yourself back in 1967-68-69)

here is her latest single "Shades of Cool" from her forthcoming cd/lp/download Ultravoilence
(someone sign her up for the next Bond theme)

Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown endorses Hillary Clinton for President 2016. Hillary45.

The legendary Gov. of California, Jerry Brown, now in his 3rd non-consecutive term as Gov. who turned California around, and in past years ran for President 3 times, and in 1992 almost upset Bill Clinton by running an unconventional grass roots effort (his 1-800 campaign was the forerunner of today's internet appeals)
was very critical of Bill Clinton.

This shows the unity tent and like Elizabeth Warren, every single major Democratic person is two years ahead already endorsing Hillary Clinton to be the 45th President of the USA!

America is indeed ready for Hillary.

Gov. Jerry Brown says 2016 Democratic nomination is Hillary Clinton’s ‘if she wants’

SAN FRANCISCO — When Bill Clinton arrived at the 1992 Democratic National Convention as the party’s all-but-certain presidential nominee, his persistent and pesky primary opponent, former California governor Jerry Brown, refused to endorse him.

Two decades later, Brown is again governor of the nation’s most-populous state. Yet in a sign that he has patched things up with the first family of Democratic politics, Brown is ready to support Hillary Rodham Clinton if she seeks the presidency in 2016.
“I really believe that Hillary Clinton has the presence, the experience and the support of the vast majority of Democrats in a way that I have not seen in my lifetime,” Brown said in a wide-ranging interview with The Washington Post. “She has this if she wants.”

Brown, 76, has been in public life for longer than just about any politician on the scene today. He first was sworn in as governor in 1975, as Hillary Rodham began teaching criminal law classes at the University of Arkansas and prepared to wed Bill Clinton. After political setbacks in the 1980s and 1990s, the former “Governor Moonbeam” climbed his way back up, first as mayor of Oakland and then as state attorney general.

Who is your favorite President of all time? Top 5? (positive comments only please)

Name your favorite president and your top 5. AND ALSO the top 5 people who should have been President
but either did not run or did not get nominated or lost.
Let's keep this all positive, no worst president, no mocking, just each person in any party favorite and top 5.

My top 5

#1 LBJ
#2 Lincoln
#3 FDR
#4 Barack Obama (but possibly will end up #2)
#5 Jimmy Carter. Especially for his first 2 and 1/2 years.

Top 5 people that should have been President
edited at 130pm eastern
#1 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
#2 Allard Lowenstein
#3 John V. Lindsay
#4 Harry Chapin
#5 Ted Kennedy (Ted is actually my favorite of the 3 brothers as Ted actually did for 50 years)
#5 tied Ann Richards

positive comments only, everybody's choice is welcome.

edited to add at 130pm eastern-
after others wrote replies and I thought of who should have been my #1 should have-

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be #1 on my list as the person who should have been President and I have written in the past, I do think perhaps he might have run for office had he lived, an obvious time would have been with Jimmy Carter though both were from the same state.( a mere technicality Cheney got out of in 2000).
Dr. King could have done what Nelson Mandela did as an example of someone later in life going into office and becoming the best of the best President of all time.
Perhaps 1980 (believe it or not Dr. King would have only been about 60) and letting Mondale go to a different job (SOS?) or 1984 or 1988.

And there are many others who should have, over the last few years but I kept my list of who should have to older people.

100% agree with the President's quote. You can't hate with love. Love trumps hate.

I can hate a gun, but love the person who owns one.
Is that too hard to understand?
Which is why I made a vow on DU never to alert for someone who has the opposing view on an issue,
and I keep that vow here. I welcome the viewpoint.

Why can't we be friends?
This is not the Survivor Island. There is room for everyone to frequent here for years.

And I bought along the Charmin with Aloe. Might as well be comfortable. And anyone tracking me already knows that is my brand anyhow.

Why did Nixon turn bad? He could have been a contender for Top 5 of all time if he didn't take to the dark side.
He knew better.
I wonder how Richard Nixon would do on a board like this, alert wise.
Wouldn't that be interesting to know?

Obama (who would have been Anne's VP in 2008)in 2012 and 2016
Deval Patrick in 2020 and 2024

99.9999% of the people don't have anyone attempting to take someones life...

why is it the NRA (who are less than 2% of all of America) insist we are all in danger and must have a gun.

It is probably (don't have the stats) more dangerous being shot by a mass shooter, than someone randomly attempting to take someone's life.

Wonder if there is a stat about that...

(and remember all those who kill themselves because they have a gun in hand...

How many times are people so threatened by the NRA scare tactic soundbytes in real life vs. how many die needlessly from a gun

How many people have died each year from a mass shooter packing a bowling ball?

Bowling balls don't kill.
Guns do. about 30 a day, hundreds wounded all needlessly

How many people have died a day week year from a bowling ball?

(note- this is a topic I first broached during the Zimmy trial.)

I will go out of my way to eat/stay in NO GUN restaurants/hotels in area & driving cross country

much like I try to only frequent no-cigarette hotels, restaurants, and I don't drink so I tend not to go to bars anyhow.

But I will drive 50 miles out of the way to find one
These places will get my money and my business, and I will recommend them to everyone.

Hey, (sidebar)
Did you hear the joke about the person who thought it would be a great idea to allow guns in places that serve booze, and then start an argument, who was better, Bob Gibson or Sandy Koufax (which as we all know,
is one of those there is no correct answer, both are). (Or would Batman defeat Superman, or would Adam West beat Christian Bale (my vote is ADAM!)

But sheesh, a bar with a Yankee and Red Sox fan or Yankee and Met fan (me a met fan), and a gun and booze...
and someone seriously thinks we should have guns allowed? And it isn't a joke or satire???

(and I agree to respect anyone who disagrees with me, this is my opinion only, not trying to convert anyone, this is one of those issues that no one will be converted on.)

But it's my money and my families money, and I can choose where and to whom I spend it on.

can't wait til one of these years I am back on the Pier in Santa Monica again, my new home away from home.
