It doesn't:

I've long noted that your posts tend to be of two types:

(1) Longish screeds that distort any given issue at hand by leaning heavily on links that often actually have little to do with the matter under discussion; screeds that also tend to be heavily larded with irrelevant anecdotes, or

(2) Quibbles about form, procedure, grammar, or spelling.

Yup.

I'm actually surprised that more GOP governors/state legislatures

don't all but defund the public university system: every dollar they send to academia is a $ for their political and ideological enemies. I know that if I were the governor of a state, I'd call the Boards of Regents and college presidents of every university funded by my state into a meeting and deliver an ultimatum: you either get REAL "diversity" on campus in the form of ideological diversity - i.e, hire more conservatives - or every entity on every campus is going to have to be self-funding.

That would pretty much mean that universities would simply become football teams with Fed-funded research centers/"colleges" attached to them, and that would be just fine with me.

Black teen guilty in killing of unarmed white jogger

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/crime-courts/teen-convicted-murder-killing-jogger-when-he-was-bored-n344036

An Oklahoma teenager who police say decided to commit murder because he was bored was found guilty by a Stephens County jury on Friday.

Chancey Luna, 17, was in a car with two other teens in August 2013 when he shot and killed a college baseball player who was out for a jog, police said. The 22-year-old Australian ballplayer, Christopher Lane, was visiting Duncan, Oklahoma, that weekend to see his girlfriend.

A jury found Luna guilty of first-degree murder on Friday. Prosecutors say he pulled the trigger; defense attorneys contended he only meant to scare the jogger, not kill him.

Luna faces life in prison without the possibility of parole as his maximum sentence and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 16.The jury recommended the harshest sentence.

Note:

I am re-posting this OP exactly as it was earlier posted, right down to the keywords, in solidarity with the poster who had that OP hidden for no good frickin' reason:

http://www.discussionist.com/1014130622

There was nothing - NOTHING - hideworthy in the slightest about that post other than four liberals didn't like the factual story being told: it was a straight news story from NBC news, for crying out loud, and there was no accompanying commentary by the OP in way, shape or form that could even remotely lent itself to being hidden.

It was a disgusting Hide, and partly because the story is a legit one that people might want to read and partly in solidarity with the poster whose OP on the same topic was hidden for no good reason, I re-post it here.

Nope: we're done here. I'll let the rest of DI be the judge of who's

done what, and who's on the right side of that barricade called TRUTH. And I'll rest easy doing so, knowing, as I do, where about 99.9999% of folks - even my fellow DI'ers who identify as politically liberal - who honestly and conscientiously peruse the back n' forth above will come down.

So, bye-bye: this topic is done and the matter is closed.

FYI MY ESTEEMED FELLOW DI'ERS

It was edited on Sunday...to read

*ahem*:

More hidden posts than any other DU member, a position she held consistently for weeks (also a position she held regularly on DU2). Numerous attempts to drive a wedge between LGBT DUers and Feminists. Did not seem to like LGBT DUers very much; defended transphobia on a number of occasions. Tried to bypass being blocked out of threads by repeatedly editing her remaining posts. Tried to bully potential Jurors into leaving her disruptive posts alone by repeatedly posting rude callouts of Jurors in the Help & Meta-discussion forum. Was a constant fixture in flame wars in that forum. Repeated attempts to badger the Admins into banning people via the alert function. Constantly surly and rude, iverglas had become pretty much the epitome of "making DU suck." She received an enormous amount of feedback from other DUers indicating that she was disruptive and divisive and was given ample opportunity to modify her approach, but instead chose to believe that the problem was everybody else on DU.

Cowardly cheating is a thing to be emulated!

FWIW the "24-hour alerting period" was the furthest thing from my mind when I edited that post: I had been in a hurry the first go-round, and when I finally got back to the thread - after the poster above kicked it back up to the top of the forum in yet another personal attack on another poster, ironically enough - I re-read the original personal attack and "challenge" ( ) that prompted my post in the first place - I'd been in a hurry the first time around, and had just thrown something out there. So, even that charge is untrue, but I know that's pretty much unprovable, so whatever.

The larger issue, as shown above, has to do with pots, kettles, and folks who have the audacity to accuse other people of engaging in posting behaviors they themselves have perfected.

Shops set ablaze, looted as xenophobic attacks spread in South Africa

ohannesburg (CNN)South African police fired rubber bullets Friday to disperse crowds setting immigrant businesses ablaze as attacks against foreigners spread to Johannesburg.

Chanting and singing, machete-armed residents burned down shops owned by foreigners, including a Nigerian dealership in the nation's largest city.

*Snip*

Violence targeting immigrant shops started recently in the port city of Durban, where two foreigners and three South Africans were killed. Residents have accused African immigrants of taking their jobs and committing crimes. The unemployment rate in South Africa is 25%, according to government figures.

A sixth death occurred Wednesday. The body of a 58-year-old foreign national was found in Verulam town, where a mob attacked the man at his home. He fled and died of his injuries near his home, South African police said.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

LOL! - Yep. Longest thread in DU history. ***SEE EDIT***

Edit***Apparently the 1,000+ thread celebrating the removal of her particularly rancid form of posting toxicity from the DUersphere was in the now-closed "Meta" forum; but the "LGBT" DU'ers disliked her open and unapologetic bigotry toward them that before she was banned their group leader posted this in their forum:

Iverglas has been banned from this group
Due to her behavior in a thread here and her abusive pm's when confronted about said behavior it was decided that Iverglas would be banned.

Which, of course, perfectly explains part of the banning message (in bold):

That also explains her current obsession with all things tranny in the OP I link below - she apparently partly blames them for at least some of her DU banning woes:

As you ARE a proven, perpetual, and willful *liar*, sure:

you survived a jury 3-4 on this one...Just a word to the wise for the next time you consider disrupting a discussion this way.

Link: http://www.discussionist.com/101693356#post81

There is simply no other context - NONE - in which your quoted reply can be taken as anything other than a threat to send more bogus alerts, that much is clear; but I'll let the rest of DI make up their own minds about that.

Odd advice coming from someone who's been on multiple timeouts...

...to someone who's nary been on one....

you survived a jury 3-4 on this one

I was not the alerter.

Really, now? So the admins just copied you on the results out of courtesy, or what? Because we know you couldn't have been on the jury since you've posted in the thread...

disrupting a discussion this way.

It's not "disruption": it's a reminder. But if I had been publicly banned by the admin of one of the most-trafficked websites on the internet in such a manner, I'd sure get cranky whenever I saw a reminder of it posted, too.

Students demand Christina H. Sommers appearances come with 'trigger warnings'

Earlier today, the president of the University of Michigan admitted that it was a mistake for the school to cancel a screening of “American Sniper” because the film made some students feel “unsafe.” The university did end up screening the film, albeit in “a separate forum that provides an appropriate space for dialogue and reflection.”

Don’t believe for a minute that the designation of campus “safe spaces” is going to silence students who consider campus events and speakers objectionable. Christina H. Sommers, author of “Who Stole Feminism?” and a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, is appearing as a guest of the Georgetown University College Republicans Thursday night, and some students are worried that her appearance should be accompanied by a “trigger warning.”

Some of the accompanying tweets lacerating this absurd nonsense are hilarious. My favorite:

To all employers - do not employ anyone from Oberlin college - they clearly can't handle life

Yup.
