Art and Politics

It's interesting how Prince's death has exposed peoples' confusion of art and politics. Today I've read that liberals will be vexed by his legacy of musical genius contrasted with his strong religious beliefs while conservatives will be similarly troubled by his music versus his support of BLM. WTF???

Full disclosure. I am not a Prince fan and can probably name only two or three of his songs. That is not, however, due to any disagreement with his politics, whatever they may be. It is simply due to personal taste.

Give it a break folks. Why do you care if you don't agree with Tom Hanks' politics. He is a wonderful actor. The same can be said about the late Charlton Heston. These people are exceptional at what they do.

Let it alone people. These are artists who produce beautiful works. Who gives a damn what their politics are?

- It will go a long way to defining his legacy as a conservative or progressive
- He declared his desire to maintain the Church's opposition to gay marriage
- But he did encourage 'erotic' sex and the 'pursuit of pleasure' in marriage
- Francis emphasized Jesus' message of mercy for priests applying doctrine
- It must consider individuals' problems within their circumstances, he says
