About Me

Costs Pose Barrier To Medical Care For Nearly One In Three Americans: Report

Over the last year, nearly one in three Americans have forgone medical care due to costs, according to a new report from Gallup.

The percentage -- 32 percent -- is higher than any previously recorded by Gallup. Last year, 30 percent said they had forgone medical care for cost reasons; 12 years ago, 19 percent said they'd forgone it for cost reasons.

The report, based on 1,015 U.S. adults who completed phone surveys from Nov. 15 and 18 this year, shows that the likelihood of forgoing care for cost reasons differs by coverage.

St. Louis Bomb Plot Fails Because of Maxed Out EBT Card

Only days before a grand jury released its decision on whether there would be a trial for the August shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, the FBI arrested two men who were allegedly looking to buy supplies to make a pipe bomb.

Sources say the men planned to kill St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch, and Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson, and also planned to bomb the famed Gateway Arch in downtown St. Louis. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the men bought what they believed to be a pipe bomb from undercover police but could not afford more bombs "until one suspect’s girlfriend’s Electronic Benefit Transfer card was replenished."

Here's a thought. Suppose that for one 24 hour period, no one on the left (we all know who you are)

... could post and use the words "race" or "racist" or "White" or "Black" as indicators for race.
I know you couldn't possibly restrain yourselves collectively and probably not even individually, but the latter is at least a possibility.

If you were to agree to this, what words would you not want to hear anyone on the right use for the same period of time? Maybe just the same words, I dunno. I'm not asking anyone to say something that they do not want to say, just refrain for one day from saying a few specific words.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has stent implanted in heart

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had a heart stent implanted to address artery blockage.

The 81-year-old justice underwent the procedure Wednesday at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in D.C., the court revealed.

"The coronary blockage was discovered after Justice Ginsburg experienced discomfort during routine exercise last night and was taken to the hospital," the court said in a statement.

"She is resting comfortably and is expected to be discharged in the next 48 hours.

How many new Ferguson threads from now until the Grand Jury speaks?

Yeah, counting this one...

The "racism accusation" tactic, for fun and games, as initially carried here from DU...

On DU, it's a cottage industry, verging on Big Business, a virtual monopoly since, as DU states, they are "center-left," although finding a political "center" there (as most would define "center") requires an electron microscope.

That aside, as many former and still current and in-good-standing DU folk have come to this spin-off site, a hard core of dedicated Left who, on DU reveled in gratuitous racial accusation, have brought that very nasty practice here.

You know who you are, as you read the above, a vulpine grin of pleasure creased your face, a tiny bit of drool left the corner of your mouth.. yes, YOU! Right there! 😁

Of course, constant accusations bring heated replies from the falsely accused and the back-and-forth continues until a new accusatory thread is started, maybe even this thread. But aside from stating known DU practice, I DO NOT intend this to be an accusatory thread, quite the opposite.

My purpose is to try to diminish such utterly worthless racial accusation posting by urging the accused to adopt some standard phrase as a reply to the racial accusation.

Some very high percentage, likely in the high 90% range I guestimate, of racism accusation is done SOLELY and DELIBERATELY to piss-off the accused, entirely for the pleasure of the accuser and like-minded others. It is trolling for effect, tossing out the "R" word to get a hot reply. Such posting is not intended to inform, it's intended to abuse.

Now, any such waste of space racial troller will have zero concern for comity, such a person has an element of sadistic joy in his or her psyche, has a NEED to generate a dishonest attack and an intense desire to engender an enraged response, it's like their main form of sexual release! ☺

So, I suggest you leave them unfulfilled. If you reply to such an attack, be as calm and as cool as possible, point out the error of the accusation if you wish, but REMEMBER... the accuser almost always is NOT INTERESTED in debate, he/she wants only to generate discord and anger.

Think up a standard reply, if you wish, a simple statement that the trolling accuser is "wrong, and have a nice day!" and STICK WITH IT, don't be pulled down into the muck.

When the deviant race-based-troller finds no satisfactory enraged replies returning, pleasure denied, we might see a reduction in such trash.

I know this plea will not find universal approval, but maybe we can, over time see SOME reduction of the utterly worthless race-based posting that takes up so very much space on this site...

Not a bad speech at all. But it's the border protection part that bothers me...

... as, for six years the President could have used his pen at any point to defend our border.. and he didn't. So, is he believable? Insisting that a comprehensive bill had to be made first turned people off, people knowing that the secure border needed to come first, but the President wouldn't let that happen. So here we are...

Does Discussionist schedule a fund drive to support the site?

I believe the site has existed only for a few months and I know it sprang fully-grown from the DU loins, but I'd guess there's added expense that needs to be met. I did a site search for "fund drive" and saw one thread from May with a missing OP, but it seemed to be more about DU, rather than about this site as a separate entity.
