Elizabeth Warren poses a challenge to Hillary in 2016

It’s enough to make you feel sorry for Hillary Clinton. Well, almost.

Her presidential campaign of celebrity and inevitability got off to a rocky start, mostly through her own mistakes, as when she claimed they were “dead broke” when she and Bubba left the White House.

But her gaffes were mere speed bumps compared to the real threat forming now.

Massachusetts firebrand Sen. Elizabeth Warrenemerges from Washington’s budget clash as the undisputed champion of the rising left, and will almost certainly challenge Clinton for the 2016 nomination.

The polls say it’s Hillary’s turn, but I’m starting to believe 2016 could be 2008 all over again, with Warren taking the nomination from her the way Barack Obama did.

STUDY: YOUR ALL-ELECTRIC CAR MAY NOT BE SO GREEN

WASHINGTON (AP) -- People who own all-electric cars where coal generates the power may think they are helping the environment. But a new study finds their vehicles actually make the air dirtier, worsening global warming.

Ethanol isn't so green, either.

"It's kind of hard to beat gasoline" for public and environmental health, said study co-author Julian Marshall, an engineering professor at the University of Minnesota. "A lot of the technologies that we think of as being clean ... are not better than gasoline."

The key is where the source of the electricity all-electric cars. If it comes from coal, the electric cars produce 3.6 times more soot and smog deaths than gas, because of the pollution made in generating the electricity, according to the study that is published Monday by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. They also are significantly worse at heat-trapping carbon dioxide that worsens global warming, it found.

Dem Lawmaker May Commute to Work from Jail

Democratic Virginia state delegate Joseph Morrissey, who reached a plea agreement for charges relating to a sexual relationship he had with his 17-year-old office assistant, is yet to decide whether he will resign or commute to work from jail.

The 57-year-old Democratic representative for Henrico county was sentenced to 12 months in jail with 6 months suspended for charges of “contributing to the delinquency of a minor,” according to a report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Morrissey’s lawyers say that he will be allowed to continue his work in the general assembly and his private law practice as part of a work-release program. He will drive his own car to work and authorities will monitor him through a device that will remain secured to his ankle, according to his lawyers.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio Draws First Blood against Obama’s Executive Amnesty...

In the first of what is believed to be many court battles over the lawlessness of Barack Obama's Executive Amnesty, which he has yet to actually write, Sheriff Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio scored a victory. The judge in the case ruled in Arpaio's favor and put case arguments and hearings on a fast track, in spite of Obama Justice Department attorneys asking until the end of January to submit their initial response.

According to the complaint filed by attorney Larry Klayman on behalf of Arpaio, "This unconstitutional act will have a serious detrimental impact. Specifically, it will severely strain our resources. Among the many negative ffects of this executive order, will be the increased release of criminal aliens back onto streets of Maricopa County, Arizona, and the rest of the nation."

Are there people here who begin threads SO ANTAGONISTIC TO THE TRUTH as to constitute...

... "alert bait?" I think I've seen both sides post them, but you'll forgive me if I think it more a leftist tactic. Any thoughts? And BE CIRCUMSPECT so you don't get "circumcised," that's a different thread...

An historic event was the start of MTV... and the first so - identified "music video"...

Will Democrats shut down the government?

Obama wants the bipartisan House funding bill to pass, Pelosi in the house and Elizabeth Warren in the Senate do not. Stay tuned...

I read a sci-fi story long ago, and one thing stuck in my mind, a minimal description...

... of the 4- cycle internal combustion engine sequence, commonly stated as "Intake, compression, power, exhaust."
The sequence in the story used different wording, rather basic wording... any guesses?...

A fun statistic: Half of the Senators who voted for Obamacare won't be part of new Senate...

On Dec. 24, 2009, the Democratic-controlled Senate passed President Obama’s healthcare law with a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority, triggering a massive backlash that propelled Republicans to control of the House the following year. On the Senate side, going into this year's midterm elections, 25 senators who voted for Obamacare were already out or not going be part of the new Senate being sworn in next month. After Democratic losses on Nov. 4 and Saturday's defeat of Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., the number has risen to 30. In other words, half of the Senators who voted for Obamacare will not be part of the new Senate.

To be sure, it isn’t fair to attribute all of the turnover in the chamber to Obamacare. In some cases — such as John Kerry leaving his seat to become secretary of state, or Robert Byrd passing away — Obamacare clearly had nothing to do with the departures. Additionally, some outgoing pro-Obamacare votes were replaced by new Democratic senators (although that tended to be the case in heavily Democratic states).

That having been said, many senators who voted for Obamacare lost re-election battles in which they were hit hard for their support for the law and other Democrats were forced to retire because they had no hope of getting re-elected given their support for the law. A total of 16 Senators who voted for Obamacare either failed to win reelection or declined to run for reelection and had their seats turned over to Republicans.

Offshore Fault Where The 'Big One' Originates Eerily Quiet

(Snip)
“What is extraordinary is that all of Cascadia is quiet. It’s extraordinarily quiet when you compare it to other subduction zones globally,” Toomey said in an interview...The evidence pointing to the colliding tectonic plates being completely stuck has serious implications for earthquake risk on land in the Pacific Northwest.

“If there were low levels of offshore seismicity, then we could say some strain is being released by the smaller events,” Toomey said. “If it is completely locked, it means it is increasingly storing energy and that has to be released at some point.” Toomey said a big unknown is how much strain has accumulated since the plate boundary seized up, and secondly, how much more strain can build up before the fault rips and unleashes a possible magnitude-9.0 megaquake and tsunami.

Toomey described himself as “very concerned” and said it is “imperative” people in the Northwest continue to prepare for a big earthquake.
