E-mail: Hillary Clinton Lashed Out at Staff over Gay-Friendly Passports

In September 2015, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton styles herself as a staunch defender of gay rights — particularly gay parental rights. “I’m proud of you!” she told a gay man last April, after he explained how he and his partner had adopted a little girl together.

Four years ago, Clinton was singing a very different tune. An e-mail included in the latest tranche of Clinton documents released by the State Department on Wednesday shows the then-secretary of state exploding at her staff over plans to replace “Mother” and “Father” with “Parent One” and “Parent Two” on passport application forms, complaining about the decision and refusing to defend it in the face of partisan opposition.

Clinton learned about the change through a January 7, 2011 article in The Washington Post. But the policy shift was first announced in a December 2010 press release from the State Department. “These improvements are being made to provide a gender-neutral description of a child’s parents and in recognition of different types of families,” the statement read.

The next day, Clinton sent an early-morning e-mail excoriating top aides Cheryl Mills and Jake Sullivan for the secretive policy shift. “I’m not defending that decision, which I disagree w and knew nothing about, in front of this Congress,” she wrote. “I could live w letting people in nontraditional families choose another descriptor so long as we retained the presumption of mother and father. We need to address this today or we will be facing a huge Fox-generated media storm led by Palin et al.”

Secret service workers spied on lawmaker investigating them – report

Scores of US secret service employees improperly accessed the decade-old, unsuccessful job application of a congressman who was investigating scandals inside the agency, a new government report said Wednesday. An assistant director suggested leaking embarrassing information to retaliate against Representative Jason Chaffetz, a Utah Republican, chairman of the House oversight committee.

One week later, assistant director Ed Lowery suggested leaking embarrassing information about Chaffetz in retaliation for aggressive investigations by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee into a series of agency missteps and scandals, the report said. Days later, on 2 April, the information about Chaffetz unsuccessfully applying for a job at the secret service was published by the Daily Beast.

“Some information that he might find embarrassing needs to get out. Just to be fair,” Lowery wrote 31 March in an email to fellow assistant director Faron Paramore.

Lowery, who is in charge of training, told the inspector general he did not direct anyone to release information about Chaffetz and “believed it would have been inappropriate to do so”, the report said. He told Roth the email was “reflecting his stress and his anger”.

Another source reported that Lowery has been appointed to the post of Assistant Director for training because of a series of high-profile security lapses!...

The Teamsters union is withholding an endorsement for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, further eroding Clinton’s support from Big Labor.

The Teamsters union’s general executive board voted unanimously Tuesday, 26-0, to hold off on endorsing Clinton at its meeting in Charleston, South Carolina. Fox News reports that the vote was meant as “an intentional snub” of Clinton for backing away from her previous support for the job-creating Keystone pipeline.

The union is holding off until union-friendly Vice President Joe Biden makes a decision about whether or not to run for president.

The union also seeks a “sit down” meeting with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, whose recent tax reform proposal drastically lowers the corporate and individual tax rates for the middle class in an effort to spur job growth, savings, and investment.

Pope Francis says conscientious objection a 'human right'

In another issue pressing on the American church, Francis was asked about the case of Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk jailed for several days after she refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples despite the Supreme Court's ruling making same-sex marriage legal nationwide. Davis said such marriages violate her Apostolic Christian faith.

Francis said he didn't know the case in detail, but he upheld conscience objection as a human right.

“It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right,” Francis said.

Pope Francis Visits Little Sisters of the Poor to Show Solidarity in Fight Against Obamacare Birth..

... Control Mandate

Pope Francis offered his support to the Little Sisters of the Poor in a quiet visit to a group of nuns fighting back against the Obama's administration's birth control mandate included in the Affordable Care Act.

The visit, according to Father Federico Lombardi, a papal spokesman, confirmed that the Pope's appearance was a sign of support for the Little Sisters in their legal fight.

Last month, The Little Sisters of the Poor were granted a short-term exemption from the mandate by the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, where they are hopeful their case will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Obama Administration has aggressively fought the Catholic group in their petition to be exempted from purchasing health plans for employees that cover birth control.

Not a big getter in the national news, for some reason!...

Volkswagen Says 11 Million Cars Worldwide Are Affected in Diesel Deception

Volkswagen said Tuesday that 11 million diesel cars worldwide were equipped with the same software that was used to cheat on emissions tests in the United States. The company issued a de facto profit warning because of the costs of repairing vehicles to comply with pollution standards.

The statement was the carmaker's first admission that diesel cars outside the United States may have the software that led the Environmental Protection Agency to accuse the carmaker of deliberately evading pollution tests. Previously, the company had acknowledged only that the problem affected about 500,000 vehicles in the United States.

Volkswagen said it would set aside 6.5 billion euros, or about $7.3 billion, to cover the cost of servicing the affected vehicles "and other efforts to win back the trust of our customers." The money would be booked in the third quarter, Volkswagen said.

The German carmaker said that "a noticeable deviation between bench-test results and actual road use was established" for 11 million so-called Type EA 189 engines.

Obama wants Biden to run, will pick Biden VP...

President Barack Obama has agreed to endorse a presidential campaign by Vice President Joe Biden if he is allowed to pick Biden's running mate, author and journalist Ed Klein reports. Biden, who has yet to announce whether he will seek the Democratic nomination, is reportedly weighing the offer, according to Klein.

Further, Obama wants Biden to choose a black running mate and commit to serving only one term, then throwing his own endorsement to his vice president, Klein writes on his Ed Klein Confidential blog. Obama reportedly favors former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, one of Obama's close allies.

"Obama has already given Biden carte blanche to use Air Force Two, the official vice presidential plane, to crisscross the country and launch an unofficial campaign," Klein wrote. "So far, Biden has visited several key primary and general election states and hammered GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, charging that Trump is offering a 'sick message' on immigration."

Biden's recent appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," where he tearfully talked about the death of his son, Beau, was even approved by Obama, according to Klein, who said it was intended as "an authentic alternative to the stiff and overly scripted Hillary Clinton."

Interesting, if accurate. Hillary under the bus in little bitty bits, Sanders shunted aside, Obama "spits his last breath at thee"...

Is Joe Biden acting as a stalking horse for Hillary?...

Stalking horse:

someone or something that is used to hide a true purpose; especially : a candidate for a political office or position who has no real chance of winning but is being used by a political party to weaken the support for an opposing party, to find out if another candidate might be successful, etc.

Not a precise usage in this case, but close. I'm speculating that Biden has no intention of following through with a candidacy, but is serving to weaken Sanders' position in support of Hillary. It just feels that way to me. Discuss...

Scientists Ask Obama To Prosecute Global Warming Skeptics

The science on global warming is settled, so settled that 20 climate scientists are asking President Barack Obama to prosecute people who disagree with them on the science behind man-made global warming.

Scientists from several universities and research centers even asked Obama to use the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) to prosecute groups that “have knowingly deceived the American people about the risks of climate change, as a means to forestall America’s response to climate change.”

RICO was a law designed to take down organized crime syndicates, but scientists now want it to be used against scientists, activists and organizations that voice their disagreement with the so-called “consensus” on global warming. The scientists repeated claims made by environmentalists that groups, especially those with ties to fossil fuels, have engaged in a misinformation campaign to confuse the public on global warming.

They seek a Torquemada to bring down the heretics...

Volkswagen said to use software to fudge emissions tests

Volkswagen is being investigated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board for allegedly using software to game emission test results.

The so-called "defeat device" to evade clean air standards is allegedly a software algorithm on certain Volkswagen vehicles, which detects if a car is undergoing official emissions testing, and turns on full emissions controls only during the test, according to an EPA statement Friday. A number of car makers including Volkswagen are increasing the software and automation in their vehicles, with some aiming at cars that could be driverless.

EPA and CARB said they uncovered the software after independent analysis by researchers at West Virginia University, working with the International Council on Clean Transportation, a non-governmental organization.

The agencies decided on further research after results raised questions about emissions levels. Volkswagen is said to have admitted to the use of the defeat devices when confronted with the emission issues.

The EPA claims that illegal emissions control software was used on Volkswagen and Audi diesel vehicles sold in the United States between the model years 2009 and 2015.

Allegedly, the cars run in a clean mode when hooked up to testing equipment and switch back to a not-so-clean mode when disconnected. This causes the torquey TDIs to actually spew up to 40 times more tailpipe emissions when driven in the real world.

The affected vehicles are 2009-2015 model year Volkswagen Jetta, Beetle and Golf, the 2014-2015 VW Passat, and 2009-2015 Audi A3, totaling roughly 482,000 diesel passenger cars.
