Estimated Influenza Illnesses, Medical visits, Hospitalizations, and Deaths in the United States...

... — 2018–2019 influenza season (CDC)

CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2018–2019 season included an estimated 35.5 million people getting sick with influenza, 16.5 million people going to a health care provider for their illness, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths from influenza (Table 1). The number of influenza-associated illnesses that occurred last season was similar to the estimated number of influenza-associated illnesses during the 2012–2013 influenza season when an estimated 34 million people had symptomatic influenza illness.

Table 1 at the link also has the US data for several flu seasons before 2018-2019.

Keep in mind that a great number of people for decades in the US do receive that season's influenza inoculations, without which there would certainly be many more infections and deaths.

Bottom line, COVID-19 will be with us for many years to come, an effective inoculation will be developed and tweaked, year-to-year, as it is for influenza strains that mutate, and until such a protocol is set in place, we seem to be fortunate that it MAY not become another ''Spanish Flu'' 1918 situation...

What's needed here is an upbeat movie! Maybe something about a beach... in Australia!...

Going to have to see how tomorrow goes, on the open. Although the economy is far from...

... getting back, the markets might be reaching a bottom, which event will preceed the economy by a period of time. I would have to enter a funds buy by 1130, which would settle out after market close, and I'm looking at a DOW which has fallen by 8,000 points from a high, nearly 1/3rd...

At this moment, 1131 hrs, 3-11-20, the DOW is down 1,136.72 points. If you have followed...

... the daily movements for the last couple of weeks or so, you see the effect of a combination of bad news, slightly better news, more bad news and day trading.

Welcome to the world of the ''whipsaw!''

''To buy securities at a market top or to sell at a market bottom. That is, one whipsaws when one buys or sells securities at exactly the worst possible time. One whipsaws out of fear or out of misreading market signals. To whipsaw is also called to chatter.''

Now, if you are a financial genius with a working investment scheme, more power to you!

If you are NOT that genius, he/they appreciate your frantic participation...

It doesn't matter to the Democratic National Committee whether Biden is around the bend of...

... senility or not, he is all they have! Democrats have disposed of all of the ''diversity'' candidates who couldn't pass the assorted litmus tests Democratic voters presented them with, leaving two old, White men standing.

And the DNC couldn't have a Socialist heading their party, he would never win a national presidential election in America, so HE had to be disposed of at the highest political level of that party by crooked means, TWICE, once in 2016 and now in 2020. Dems want his VOTERS, but they do not want HIM.

As it seems that, once again, Bernie is withdrawing graciously, I assume that he received a price well worth it to him as a ''gratuity'' from a grateful Democratic Party. Will he support Biden with the same degree of enthusiasm he supported Hillary?

So Dems have a candidate for president who has one foot in the door of an institution for the mentally incapable, and one foot on a banana peel. And at this moment in history, a good many Democratic voters seem not to care about this nation, so long as Daddy DNC says ''it's aaaaall right, baby, just cloooose your eyes.''

But if we are very lucky, a larger number of Democratic voters are NOT ready to vote for this, and this will be evident come November. IF we catch a break...

Coronavirus NY News: Gov. Cuomo orders containment zone in New Rochelle, calls in National Guard

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he is accepting a recommendation to shut down a one-mile radius in New Rochelle, Westchester County, because of the coronavirus outbreak. He has called on the National Guard to help in the effort to curb the spread of the virus in the suburb just north of New York City.

Cuomo describes New Rochelle as having "a particular problem" with a cluster of cases and contains a much higher number of positive cases than New York City.

He said officials are focusing on a one-mile radius around the center of where the outbreak started and setting up a containment area between March 12 and March 25.

If Democrats hadn't switched from saying Trump had acted too soon, this would have punched a hole in their position...

First I read, ''Coronavirus: Doctor says high blood pressure a major death risk'' and thought...

... I really, REALLY gotta get it down under 125!

Then I read where the patients were:

''...Of a group of 170 patients who died in January in Wuhan about 50% had hypertension...''

How could they isolate hypertension out of all the other factors the poor folks had to endure?...

Joe Biden, he recycles!...

So, my doctor has privileges at a Sarasota, FL hospital.. THIS hospital...

Coronavirus Florida: Doctor who diagnosed Manatee County coronavirus case quarantined

Doctor’s Hospital of Sarasota makes first public statement about coronavirus response.

SARASOTA — "Multiple" health care workers who came into contact with a patient who was treated for coronavirus at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota have been quarantined, according to a state health official. The workers are not sick but have been isolated as a precaution, said G. Steve Huard, the public information officer for the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County.

Asked how many Doctors Hospital workers — or doctors who work at the hospital but are not employed there — have been quarantined, Huard said in an email that "we identified multiple health care workers at several locations all who had contact with the case have been quarantined."

Huard added that the workers are not sick.

"However, our public health protective process requires contacts to be isolated (for 14 days after their known contact) so that if they become ill we can take appropriate action without causing additional exposures," Huard wrote. "If after the 14-day period they remain healthy, they are allowed to return to work and normal activities."

Those isolated include a prominent Sarasota doctor who diagnosed the Manatee County resident with coronavirus quarantined himself after he met with the patient, according to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

AND I have some neck pain, came on me overnight, and it hurts a bit on one side when I take a deep breath. Got an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. I'll be wearing two masks going in, a cheapo that only protects others around you from cough or sneeze droplets, and an FFP3 R D that I got a shipment of from the UK two days ago.

Going to a medical facility at this time was NOT on my joy list. If I feel even slightly better tomorrow morning, I'll happily surrender my 1400 hrs slot...
