You gotta love goofy product warnings

I just got in some bear deterrent spray for our trip west. On the back of the package are the instructions and a Warning:

To be effective, Counter Assault Bear Deterrent must be airborne. Do not spray this product on objects, tents, or humans; such use has NO deterrent effect on bears.

Really? Who would have known. I can only imagine so idiot purposefully spraying down either themselves or others in the name of "protecting" them. Bet that went over like a fart in church.

Rachel Donezal: 21st Century Blackface act

I mean seriously. How is this not just some sort of warped version of this?

The ENTIRE NATION of Mexico had an Exorcism

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/catholicnews/2015/06/what-happens-when-an-entire-country-becomes-infested-with-demons/

High levels of violence, as well as drug cartels and abortion in the country, were the motivation behind the special rite of exorcism, known as “Exorcismo Magno.”

Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez, the archbishop emeritus of Guadalajara, presided at the closed doors ceremony, the first ever in the history of Mexico.

Also participating were Archbishop Jesús Carlos Cabrero of San Luis Potosí, Spanish demonologist and exorcist Father José Antonio Fortea, and a smaller group of priests and lay people.

The event was not made known to the general public beforehand. According to Archbishop Cabrero, the reserved character of the May 20 ceremony was intended to avoid any misguided interpretations of the ritual.

We finally did it! We got married!!!

Well, we pulled it off. Through all of the last minute chaos we managed to pull off a pretty darn good wedding. We are both ridiculously happy.

Got my marriage license yesterday

In PA there is an option for non-religious people to obtain a "Self-Uniting" marriage license. It is somewhat controversial. It was originally created for people who are members of religions with no formalized clergy, such as Quakers. However there was a court decision in Pittsburgh that said these marriages should be open to anyone who requests it, as a denial on religious grounds would be Unconstitutional. Not all counties are complying, as the decision was for a limited Court District. Luckily the County we went to didn't bat an eye when we applied. It was important for us to have our own ceremony our way. Simply because we are Atheists should not relegate us to a process one step higher than renewing your drivers license at the DMV. I simply don't see why you need someone else to solemnize your marriage. In our eyes we don't need the blessing or consent of a third party to tell us what we already know: That we wish to profess to our family and friends that we love one another and commit to spending the rest of our lives together. No sleazy government official or clergyman who represents a set of beliefs we don't subscribe to can confer that on us.

Not us, but still illustrative of some of the problems here in parts of the State:

New Ridley Scott Science Fiction coming out

In November. It's called The Martian. Here's the first trailer. It looks like it may be good for us fans of "hard" scifi.

I'm 9 days out from my wedding

I have ZERO regrets, and no second thoughts, but I'm nervous as hell. I'm about to marry the absolutely Best Woman in the World, whom I do not deserve BTW; I'm 47 years old and this is my 2nd time around, and I'm more jittery than a guy on his 1st Prom. I just want to be worthy of her. She saved my life in more ways than one.

We dated 7 years before we made this decision, and have lived together for 6. Why in the hell am I so nervous? I feel like a teenager.

I have been through hell the past 24 hours

at about 1PM yesterday some idiot too out the utility pole in front of our house (he wasn't badly injured) and managed to take out the power. Well they didn't get it back on until 4PM today. What's the big deal you ask? Well, we are self employed AND we self host all of our own data: web server, Exchange server, CRM Server, SQL server, NAS, etc. We were essentially out of business right in the middle of several important, time sensitive, and potentially lucrative deals. To make matters worse, the circuit breaker switch on my generator broke off in my hand AND the part is out of production. We basically ran the business today off of a cellphone attached to a Goal Zero camping solar panel. Thank god it was sunny and warm.

I almost considered getting a high output DC/AC inverter for the truck and the car and backing them up to a window and running the servers off of idling vehicles.

The only good thing I can say is I own a stovetop percolator and had a bottle of Single Malt Islay that was unopened. Yeah! Camping at home!!
