Exit Poll: Voter want a "Strong Leader" above all else.

Voters heading to the polls Tuesday are twice as likely to say they want a president who is a “strong leader” than in 2012, according to Morning Consult/POLITICO exit data.

More than one-third (36 percent) of 2016 voters said being a strong leader was the most important quality when picking a president, compared with 18 percent of voters who said the same during 2012 election. It’s an opinion held regardless of partisan leanings: 35 percent of Democrats, 34 percent of independents and 39 percent of Republicans said that was most important.

After being a strong leader, voters said having a vision for the future, at 29 percent, was most important. Sixteen percent picked having a candidate share their values and care about people like them, respectively.

Democrats were more likely than Republicans to place more value in whether the candidate cares about them (20 percent to 12 percent), while GOP voters said it was more important that the candidate shares their values (19 percent to 14 percent).

Dumb Outlook Spam question

Does anybody know if there is a way to create a rule based on not the sender's domain (they're all spoofed) but instead based upon a certain hyperlink in the body of the email itself?

apparently half of Eastern Europe wants to have sex with me and I'm getting tired of all these spam emails.

X-Ray mystery emanating from Pluto

X-rays appear to be trickling away from Pluto, even though the dwarf planet has no obvious way of making the high-energy photons, a new study reports.

Given what researchers have learned about Pluto since the New Horizons spacecraft flew by in 2015 (SN: 8/8/15, p. 6), the discovery is surprising. For many planets and comets, X-rays are generated when the solar wind, a stream of charged particles from the sun, runs into neutral gas atoms or magnetic fields from these bodies. But the environment around Pluto isn’t conducive to producing X-rays: the dwarf planet has no measurable magnetic field, its atmosphere is very thin, and it’s losing that atmosphere at rates much lower than expected.

“We naively thought Pluto might be losing its atmosphere at the same rate as comets,” says Carey Lisse, a planetary astronomer at the Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md. “We knew comets make X-rays, so we hoped that Pluto did, too.” Instead, interactions between the solar wind and a tenuous tail of methane gas hundreds of times longer than Pluto’s diameter might be the culprit, Lisse and colleagues suggest online October 25 on

Lisse’s team used the Chandra X-ray telescope, once in 2014 and three more times in 2015, to look for Pluto X-rays. Chandra detected just seven photons streaming from Pluto in a total of about two days’ worth of observing time. Though the signal isn’t strong, that’s about six or seven more photons than expected based on New Horizons’ measurements of Pluto’s atmosphere and the solar wind.

“It’s a very puzzling finding,” says Konrad Dennerl, an astrophysicist at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching, Germany. “I’m not fully convinced,” he adds. “It’s a very low signal.”

Could it be?

Just want to thank all you guys

We've had a pretty robust discussion here:

And no real name calling, insults, or mud slinging.

Thank you. You should all be proud of yourselves.

It's what I imagine this board could be.

Lets be brutally honest here

For the purposes of this thread I don't want to get into who did what, or who is guilty of what. There are plenty of threads out there and oodles of news stories. This is about the practical implications of where we stand and where we are likely to be.

A potential Hillary election would mean we would have a President Elect under FBI investigation before they even took office. Barring indictment before the Oath of Office is taken it would most likely mean the first year in office will be consumed with multiple investigations and more than likely an impeachment proceeding. In other words, it will end up being all about her, and not the Nation.

I would ask all to step back from you Party before all feelings and take the health of the Nation into account. Is this really good for the Country? How does this advance the cause and needs of the American People? You know, all those actual real people out there who go to work every day and bust their rear to keep the lights on and put food on the table.

No matter what the outcome she will have wasted any perceived political capital and mandate saving (or not) her own skin. We are looking at 4 years of absolutely nothing achieved.

Hillary forced to stop in Michigan as support falters

Hillary Clinton added a stop in Michigan and her campaign is pouring more money into advertising there and three other states once considered safe amid concerns among some Democrats that a new FBI review of a top aide’s e-mails may erode her electoral firewall.

The decision by Clinton to return four days before the election to a state that supported her husband in 1992 and has backed every Democratic presidential nominee since then suggests growing concerns about a tightening race with Republican Donald Trump.

Her visit to Detroit on Friday to talk about the economy also is an opportunity for Clinton to shore up support among black voters, a key constituency for the coalition that she’s counting on to win. During the Democratic primary, Michigan dealt her a surprise defeat to Senator Bernie Sanders, who will now campaign for her there on Wednesday.

The announcement of Clinton’s visit came as the campaign said it is making six-figure advertising buys in Michigan, Colorado, Virginia and New Mexico. Those are all states Democrats saw as safe before Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey’s announcement last Friday that the agency was examining newly discovered e-mails that might pertain to the earlier investigation on Clinton’s use of private e-mail while secretary of state.
