Emmett Till accuser finally recants her accusall... Far too late

The woman at the center of the trial of Emmett Till's alleged killers has acknowledged that she falsely testified he made physical and verbal threats, according to a new book.

Historian Timothy B. Tyson told The Associated Press on Saturday that Carolyn Donham broke her long public silence in an interview with him in 2008. His book, "The Blood of Emmett Till," comes out next week.

"She told me that 'Nothing that boy did could ever justify what happened to him,'" said Tyson, a Duke University research scholar whose previous books include "Blood Done Sign My Name" and "Radio Free Dixie."

Emmett Till was a 14-year-old black tortured and killed in 1955 in Mississippi after allegedly whistling at a white woman, then known as Carolyn Bryant.

His murder became national news, was a galvanizing event in the civil rights movement and has been the subject of numerous books and movies. During the trial, Bryant said that he had grabbed her, and, in profane terms, bragged about his history with white woman. The jury was not present when she testified.

Donham's then-husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother, J.W. Milam, were acquitted by the all-white jury. Both men, who later told Look magazine they did murder Till, have since died. Milam's widow, Juanita Milam, would later tell the FBI she believed that Carolyn Bryant had fabricated her story. Juanita Milam died in 2014. The Justice Department re-examined the case a decade ago, but no one was indicted as a murderer or an accomplice.

A statement from his publicist, Glass Onyon PR, says Wetton died Tuesday from colon cancer.

Wetton was a founding member of Asia. He rose to fame as part of English rock band King Crimson in the 1970s.

He had planned to tour with Asia but announced in January that he would be unable to join his bandmates due to chemotherapy treatment. He said at the time he hoped to resume touring later in the year.

Asia bandmate Carl Palmer said the world had lost "another musical giant."

Wetton was a recovered alcoholic who had worked in the past 11 years to help others quit drinking.

He is survived by wife Lisa and son Dylan.

Mike Connors, "Mannix" dead at 91

LOS ANGELES – Mike Connors, who starred as a hard-hitting private eye on the long-running television series "Mannix," has died. He was 91.

The actor died surrounded by family Thursday afternoon at a Los Angeles hospital from complications of leukemia that had been diagnosed a week earlier, said his son-in-law, Mike Condon.

"Mannix" ran for eight years on CBS beginning in 1967. Viewers were intrigued by the tall, smartly dressed, well-spoken detective who could mix it up with the burliest of thugs and leap on the hood of a racing car to prevent an escape. Episodes normally climaxed with a brawl that left the culprits bruised and beaten.

"Up until Mannix, most private investigators were hard-nosed, cynical guys who lived in a seedy area and had no emotions," Connors theorized in 1997. "Mannix got emotionally involved. He was not above being taken advantage of."

Any Wall will be useless without the other part

Unless we also go full on after those who hire illegal labor we will quite literally be walling that labor in. Aside from the fact there are here and are employed illegally, they are oftentimes working in virtual slave labor conditions and for shit wages. It is just intolerable on multiple levels.

Bottom line is if there weren't work available for these people they wouldn't be coming here. Don't get me wrong, strong border security is crucial for all sorts of National Security reasons, but stopping their ability to be hired will stem a lot of the flow North.

Maybe that's because you are criminals?

Article on the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

Machine translated:

Not announced. Is not expected. There are no welcome signs on the arrivals door. Its passengers travel handcuffed hands and feet. They can not get up or go to the bathroom. Any complaint is ignored or suppressed. "They make us feel like criminals and sometimes you do not understand why you have to go through all this," says Efraín Fragoso, one of the 135 deportees who have just landed every Tuesday and Thursday in the Mexican capital from the United States. The plane has arrived four days after Donald Trump entered the White House and one day before the Republican firm Wednesday the executive order to build a wall along the border with Mexico.

Fragoso, 56, only carries a burlap with his identifications and some Bible psalms, as well as a small fuchsia bag given to him by the Mexican authorities with information about his return. That's all it brings. He was detained for six months, although his sentence was 75 days. First in Paso del Norte and Sierra Blanca, on the border between Texas and Chihuahua, then Otero, New Mexico . "They judge you for crossing without papers and then in states that claim you for something you did or for something that someone called you did, anyway they move you," he says.

He entered the United States for the first time 14 years ago and settled in Orange County, California. He is a veteran of the repatriations, he has tried to cross 15 times. Never with a visa. " The United States is given baths purity, judges swear on a Bible and then treat us well, when most will only work , " he pauses and reflects: "We have the right to complain, but sometimes I think , 'What I complain in the United States, if Mexican authorities behave the same or worse on the southern border? "

He admits he will probably go away again. "I feel better than in Mexico, there is more security and also the government here is very corrupt , so I look for an opportunity in the United States, even as an illegal immigrant , " he says determinedly. He has three children and grandchildren in the capital, but he always goes without company. Sometimes in Tijuana, sometimes in Sonora or Ciudad Juárez. "It is very dangerous, I prefer to take the risk alone, the controls are very strict, especially after 9/11," he explains.

Guilty pleasure: Fast food items that are discontinued that you miss

Yes, I know, we are all good healthy eaters who condemn the very concept of fast food and we tell everyone who will listen that. Still, most of us do have a secret guilty pleasure that we succumb to occasionally. Is there a fast food item you used to really enjoy that is no longer made?

I have one. The Wendy's Big Bacon Classic. I miss it. Unlike the Baconator it had just the right amounts of stuff.

Stupid "Alternative Lifestyle" criminal nearly kills her baby.

Mother accused of malnourishing baby with vegan diet

A woman accused of starving her 11-month-old baby was in court Tuesday.

According to investigators, Elizabeth Hawk, 33, told a Children and Youth Servies worker that she eats a “vegan lifestyle diet” and so do her children. Police, however, said it was abuse and charged her with child endangerment.

A police complaint said the baby developed a rash and that Hawk refused to use steroid cream because she didn’t believe in western medicine. Instead, she applied coconut oil.

The boy’s father said the baby suffered with the rash for eight months until he took him to a child-abuse doctor in August.

The father also testified he believes his son is developmentally delayed because he was only eating nuts and berries. He said the boy wasn’t crawling, standing or reaching milestones. The boy also didn’t have any teeth.
