Larry King is an idiot

http://www.tmz.com/2018/03/29/larry-king-second-amendment-created-fight-slave-uprisings/

"Larry King has an interesting tidbit for why the Second Amendment should be repealed -- and it's got to do with what he says is the real reason it was created ... to fight off slaves.

We got the ex-talk show host Wednesday at E. Baldi in Bev Hills, where we asked what he thought of former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens' NYT op-ed calling for the amendment giving Americans the right to bear arms to be repealed.

Larry says he's completely on board, adding that the antiquated provision needs to be rewritten due to unclear language ... and also, because it's "real" purpose is moot now.

He backs a widely discussed theory that the Second Amendment was pushed for by Southern senators who simply wanted to fend off potential slave uprisings. How about that?

Fact is ... there was a move back then to keep guns away from slaves, but it's actually an anti-gun control issue and not an issue about repealing the Second Amendment."

Fast food that is wrong on every level... But it looks so damn good.

https://www.brandeating.com/2018/03/kfc-introduces-new-waffle-double-down-in-canada.html

If you fancy yourself KFC's rendition of chicken and waffles, you may wish to book a trip up north to Canada where the fried chicken chain is set to introduce the new Waffle Double Down starting March 26, 2018.

The new, limited-time menu item features two fried chicken filets sandwiching a Belgian waffle and, for a Canadian touch, maple aioli sauce.

While the Double Down has sported several permutations across the globe (including one combining beef, pork, and chicken, a hot dog version, and one with a rice patty), this marks the first time waffles have found a place inside the sandwich. It hasn't been seen here in the US since 2014.

I don't like this at all

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/mar/29/extreme-vetting-state-dept-demand-tourists-social-/

"The State Department will publish new rules this week that would require most visitors and immigrants to the U.S. to turn over their recent social media histories, carrying out one of President Trump’s key security enhancements from his extreme vetting executive order."

How much do you want to bet a person who does not do social media will be viewed as suspicious, because, you know, EVERYONE'S on Facebook.

Yulia Skripal rapidly improving

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5558445/Investigators-remove-poisoned-spy-Sergei-Skripals-door.html

"The daughter of poisoned spy Sergei Skripal is 'improving rapidly' in hospital and her condition is now 'stable', doctors have said.

In a statement, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said Yulia Skripal is 'improving rapidly and is no longer in a critical condition'.

The development could prove key to the investigation into the chemical weapons attack - as it may mean Ms Skripal could soon be able to tell police about the moments before she and her father collapsed in a park.

She could also potentially identify whoever carried out the attack - which is now thought to have taken place at Mr Skripal's suburban home.

Her father remains in a 'critical but stable' condition after the nerve attack three and a half weeks ago, the NHS trust said."

Revolutionary change in Doctrine from the Pope

https://www.cnsnews.com/blog/michael-w-chapman/pope-francis-there-no-hell

"In another interview with his longtime atheist friend, Eugenio Scalfari, Pope Francis claims that Hell does not exist and that condemned souls just "disappear." This is a denial of the 2,000-year-old teaching of the Catholic Church about the reality of Hell and the eternal existence of the soul.

The interview between Scalfari and the Pope was published March 28, 2018 in La Repubblica. The relevant section on Hell was translated by the highly respected web log, Rorate Caeli.

The interview is headlined, "The Pope: It is an honor to be called revolutionary." (Il Papa: “È un onore essere chiamato rivoluzionario.")

Scalfri says to the Pope, "Your Holiness, in our previous meeting you told me that our species will disappear in a certain moment and that God, still out of his creative force, will create new species. You have never spoken to me about the souls who died in sin and will go to hell to suffer it for eternity. You have however spoken to me of good souls, admitted to the contemplation of God. But what about bad souls? Where are they punished?"

Pope Francis says, "They are not punished, those who repent obtain the forgiveness of God and enter the rank of souls who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot therefore be forgiven disappear. There is no hell, there is the disappearance of sinful souls.""

You just knew someone would figure out how to game the system

http://www.wnd.com/2018/03/legally-change-your-gender-to-retire-5-years-earlier/

Convincing Sergio Lazarovich he’s the beneficiary of white-male privilege is going to be a tough sell.

So tough, he has legally changed his gender, reported the Daily Mail.

According to a relative identified as Enzo, reported Informate Salta, the 60-year-old Argentinian tax worker – now known as Sergia – didn’t make the change because of some long-simmering psychological turmoil about his identity, but instead switched so he could retire five years earlier, a move he has been contemplating for three years.

Argentina sets the retirement age at 60 for female state workers and 65 for males.

“His conviction is that it is unfair that, because he is a man, he has to work five years more than a woman,” Enzo told the paper.

“He has been working on this for more than three years and was advised by lawyers, and the first plan was to make a complaint to the state citing discrimination.

“But it was an option that could have taken many years, and no one could guarantee that the court would rule in his favor.”

Argentina’s liberal procedure for changing gender only requires the filing of a document declaring one’s self-perception. No evidence of hormone treatment or gender-reassignment surgery is required.

So far, Lazarovich has not submitted an application to begin receiving his pension as a woman, and it is unclear if his gender-bending plan will be challenged by state lawyers.

So, this is my one month review of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, or 2017, or whatever

My wife and I picked up two of these things both specked the same:

Core i7 7660u processor
16GB RAM
512GB SSD storage
2736 x 1824 12.3 inch touchscreen display
Alcantara type cover
Arc mouse
Surface pen
Surface dock
Windows 10 Professional Full (not S) version

She got the Surface Dial up front. I held off, but ended up getting one about 2 weeks ago.

Things I like:
1: The display is amazing. I have never seen one sharper, clearer, or brighter. Incredible detail.
2: The processor is fast. Really fast. It blows away my 2nd Gen Core i7 machine with double the RAM.
3: Did I mention the speed? Boot to desktop in about 15-20 seconds. Combo of the CPU and the SSD.
4: Great battery life. I've been on battery since about 8:30 this morning. It's now 3:30PM and I'm at 32%. If I were a little more careful I could easily work all day unplugged.
5: The type cover, as thin as it is, has the feel of a regular keyboard, and it's not too small.
6: The pen is very sensitive. It feels like you are actually writing. The pressure sensitivity actually works.
7: The keyboard and power connector attach securely via a magnet. You can't get it wrong.

Things I don't like/Could use improvement:
1: The type cover really should have some sort of magnetic closure. As it is, it just flops loose.
2: Power consumption/thermal management is too conservative. It's quick to throttle the CPU and reduce performance. You can change it's limits via Intel's performance tweaking software. Not sure how much is a bad idea.
3: I really wish it had a full size HDMI port instead of the Mini Display Port. One more dongle to carry and lose.
4: I mentioned throttling. This is not a gaming machine despite the specs. It only has 1GB of VRAM (not shared). I suspect games a few years old would do just fine.
5: Pricey. The base model Core m3 is only $799, but it goes up fast from there. In addition the keyboard and pen have to be purchased separately.
6: The display. Yes, I said I love it and I do. The problem comes when you connect an external display. Anything less than 4K looks like crap beside it. Prepare to replace your monitor.

Overall, this is one hell of a machine. It can serve both as a primary computer and a very powerful mobile workstation. It's light enough (about 1 3/4 pounds) that you can carry it all day without getting sore. In fact, my wife just shoves hers into her purse.

The jury is still out on the Dial. There just isn't a lot you can do with it yet, but I see it's potential.

Slow news day in Phoenix

http://www.sacbee.com/news/nation-world/national/article206905244.html

"Station offers live feed of cat stuck on pole. 911 calls pour in from across the U.S.

Gypsy, a black and white cat, had been trapped on top of a power pole in Phoenix, Ariz., since Friday when KNXV, an ABC affiliate, posted a livestream of her plight Monday morning to Facebook.

In the hour before a neighbor armed with a ladder rescued Gypsy around 11 a.m. local time, half a million people had watched the saga and concerned cat-lovers from across the United States had flooded 911 dispatchers with more than 100 calls demanding authorities save the cat, the Phoenix Fire Department told The Arizona Republic. So many people called about Gypsy that the dispatching center nearly came to a “screeching halt,” officials said.

Capt. Rob McDade told the publication that dispatchers fielded calls from New Jersey, Ohio and Florida as well as the Phoenix area.

At one point, someone moderating the KNXV livestream asked viewers to stop calling 911 about the cat, according to the Phoenix New Times."
