The Taj Mahal is turning green

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-43967685

"dia's Supreme Court has instructed the government to seek foreign help to fix what it described as a worrying change in colour at the Taj Mahal.

"Even if you have the expertise, you are not utilising it. Or perhaps you don't care," court justices said.

The court said the famous palace, built in the 17th Century from white marble and other materials, had turned yellow and was now turning brown and green.

Pollution, construction and insect poo are said to be among the causes.

Justices Madan Lokur and Deepak Gupta examined photographs of the palace submitted by environmentalists and ordered the government to seek expertise from inside India and abroad.

The government has previously shuttered thousands of factories near the Taj Mahal, but activists say it is still losing its lustre.

Why is India's Taj Mahal turning green?

Sewage in the Yamuna River, alongside the palace, attracts insects which excrete waste onto the palace's walls, staining them.

The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the city of Agra and is now one of the world's leading tourist attractions, drawing as many as 70,000 people every day.

The dirt problem is not a new one - several times over the past two decades or so the palace's white marble has been coated in a mud pack in an attempt to clean it - but there are fears the problem is worsening.

Its most recent mud bath began in January. Scaling the walls on scaffolds, workers plaster the surfaces with Fuller's earth, a mud paste that absorbs dirt, grease, and animal excrement.

Think of a giant face mask, but for a palace.

The mud is then washed off, taking the dirt with it. The current cleanup operation is expected to last until late this year.

Another Supreme Court hearing has been set for 9 May.

ROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Smugglers left behind a live tiger cub in a duffel bag when they fled back to Mexico after attempting to cross the Rio Grande into Texas.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on Tuesday said the male tiger, believed to be three or four months old, has been placed at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville.

Border Patrol agents patrolling Monday along the river near Brownsville saw three people trying to enter the U.S. illegally. An agency statement says the trio abandoned a bag and returned to Mexico.

Officers discovered the cub stuffed in the bag. Agent Robert Rodriguez said Tuesday that the tiger appeared calm and was possibly sedated.

Pretty girl in beautiful prom dress gets savaged by the deranged online

http://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/2018/04/30/utah-teen-shamed-for-wearing-racist-dress-to-prom-sparking-cultural-appropriation-debate.html

"Keziah Daum is not apologizing for wearing what she calls a "beautiful" Chinese cheongsam dress to her high school prom, despite receiving backlash from thousands of people online calling her a "closet racist" and accusing her of cultural appropriation.

Daum, 18, posted an album of four prom pictures on Twitter on April 22 with the simple caption, "PROM." One of the photos in the album includes Daum crouching down in the traditional Chinese dress, posing with a group of her friends with their hands folded together — a gesture many deemed inappropriate.

It didn't take long for the Internet to respond. As of Monday evening, Daum's post has been retweeted nearly 4,400 times and now she's fielding hundreds of angry comments.

"What's the theme of your life? Ignorant?" one user asked.

"This isn’t ok. I wouldn’t wear traditional Korean, Japanese or any other traditional dress and I’m Asian. I wouldn’t wear traditional Irish or Swedish or Greek dress either. There’s a lot of history behind these clothes. Sad," another added.

"Oh god! The pose is just the cherry on top of this casually racist post. It's not just a dress, it's something that means something historically and traditionally to the Chinese," another added.

But the teenager, who reportedly attends Woods Cross High School in Utah, defended her decision to wear the red-orange embroidered gown. And said she would wear it again to show her "respect" for the Chinese culture.

"To everyone causing so much negativity: I mean no disrespect to the Chinese culture. I’m simply showing my appreciation to their culture. I’m not deleting my post because I’ve done nothing but show my love for the culture. It’s a f---ing dress. And it’s beautiful," she tweeted on Saturday.

She then added, "To everyone who says I’m ignorant, I fully understand everyone’s concerns and views on my dress. I mean no harm. I am in no way being discriminative or racist. I’m tired of all the backlash and hate when my only intent was to show my love."

But some followers didn't think Daum had the right to determine whether the gesture or dress was racist or not.

"If you’re not Chinese don’t decide whether it’s racist or not," one Twitter user replied.

"If you're not Chinese then you have no right to speak up about this," another echoed.

Some called on the teen to simply apologize and "move on."

"I'm Chinese & think it's fine if u wore a qipao cuz it's pretty. But u need to apologize for the pose. It doesn't matter that u didn't mean any harm or that it wasn't ur idea," another agreed. "You did it cuz YOU were ignorant that it's offensive. Apologize for unintentionally mocking and move on," one Twitter user wrote.

"You’re trying to make yourself the victim when all you had to do was apologize and learn," another added.

Daum told INSIDER she spotted the dress in a Salt Lake City thrift store weeks before prom, and knew instantly that it was the one.

"I bought the dress because I thought it was beautiful and admired the beauty of the culture," she told the site.

She had no idea it would garner this type of response."

Neat day Saturday. We went to Kent State. Weirdest thing earlier

I haven't been there in over 20 years, so we figured for our weekend drive we'd go the hour and a half up. There is a well known local bar there that I used to frequent when I used to come there to visit friends in college. We figured we'd hit it after a visit to the memorial.

So I'm having my morning coffee and flipping through the website. They have a "Memory Lane" section of old photos and low and behold, I see a photo of myself from probably around 1988 or so.

That's me, in the red and black stripe shirt on the right.

What an odd thing to see on a Sunday morning.

Bet you didn't know the Jeep CJ is still being built

In India under license. This is sort of what the Wrangler would be like today had the 60 Minutes roll-over report had never aired.

I'd love to be able to buy one of these
