I'm watching this fire in the Simi Valley. It looks as if the Reagan Presidential Library may burn

Live coverage

Absolutely horrifying. Live coverage here. Horses trapped in corrals as the flames approach, others in full panic galloping all over the road, others running into the fire.

Babylon Bee hits on a nugget of truth

U.S.—A new poll found that Starbucks was consumers' favorite coffee, in the event that they're in the middle of a deserted wasteland and the only thing there is a Starbucks.

A slim majority of those polled said they would prefer drinking Starbucks' burnt coffee and sickly sweet drinks to eating sand or crawling a thousand miles to a better coffee option, though a strong 32% said they'd bypass the Starbucks and simply waste away under the withering sun.

"While normal human beings can't stand Starbucks, their preference for the brand grows exponentially when they are lost in the desert and have literally no other choices," said a researcher as he observed a test subject crawling through the desert whispering, "Water---please, need water..." The subject saw a Starbucks in the distance but decided instead to simply chew on some gravel.

The researcher shook his head. "Another one for dying of thirst," he muttered as he made a checkmark on his clipboard.

The study also found that the desire to drink Starbucks in the middle of the desert when you're dying of thirst decreases signficantly if there is any kind of sludge or mud nearby to drink instead.

Dumb question that serves no real purpose:

Why is it that Arab countries do not seem to use "Arabic" numerals? Does anybody know?

The challenges of owning a JDM car, or you learn something new every day

So, tomorrow and Sunday may very well be the last good convertible days of the year, so I was going to install the stereo in the Cappuccino. I got in and low and behold the battery was dead as a door-nail. After and hour on the charger I realized it wasn't taking a charge. No problem, I figured, I'll take it down to the parts store and get a new one. It was such an odd size I could not find one for love or money. So I came home and decided to check online. I eventually found one on Ebay... IN POLAND!! I decided to go to the local Suzuki bike dealership. Considering the car only has a 3 cylinder 660cc engine I figured I'd have better luck. No go there. The dude there told me he thought one from a side by side may fit, but the model he was thinking about was 300 miles away.

I was about to give up and decided to stop at Walmart on the way home to get a new charger, resigned to the fact I was going to have to park the car for the winter and import a battery from Poland. Turns out the Walmart guy was the first willing to take a tape measure to all of his batteries. He managed to come up with something very, very close in size with almost twice the cold cranking amps. I was very happy and impressed. The other weird thing was the terminal posts were a different size, so I ended up changing them out as well.

Before anyone says that it's weird foreign crap, the battery that died was an AC Delco marked Made in USA, although everything else was in Japanese.

Anyways, the weekend cruise is back on, albeit without sound. The stereo will have to wait for another day.
