California has worst 'quality of life' in US, study says

California ranks dead last among U.S. states in quality of life, according to a study by U.S. News, ranking behind New Jersey (49th) and Indiana (48th).

The ignominious honor reflects California's low marks in the sub-categories of environmental quality and social engagement. The latter category measures voting participation and community bonds.

Californians scored poorly in part because they're simply insufferable, U.S. News suggested.

"In addition to a healthy environment, a person's quality of life is largely a result of their interactions with those around them," the magazine wrote in a blurb accompanying the results.

Ohio restaurant owner forces black students to pre-pay for their meals because ‘you people steal’

group of black college students from Youngstown State University in Ohio, was reportedly told they need to pre-pay for their meal or wouldn’t be served.

The incident started when Samora Savage and a group of friends and classmates went to Royal Grill Buffet in Boardman, a suburb of Youngstown.

The group was told they had to pay before being seated and initially agreed. Then, they noticed that other customers were paying after their meal.

Savage asked the manager why and, according to the Vindicator newspaper, was told “You people steal.”

Liberal Oakland mayor hates America

ICE arrests 150 in Northern California and blasts Oakland mayor over her warning

ICE Deputy Director Homan
"The Oakland mayor's decision to publicize her suspicions about ICE operations further increased that risk for my officers and alerted criminal aliens -- making clear that this reckless decision was based on her political agenda," Homan said in a statement.

He said 864 immigrants with criminal records "remain at large in the community and I have to believe that some of them were able to elude us thanks to the mayor's irresponsible decision."
"Sanctuary jurisdictions like San Francisco and Oakland shield dangerous criminal aliens from federal law enforcement at the expense of public safety," Homan said. "Because these jurisdictions prevent ICE from arresting criminal aliens in the secure confines of a jail, they also force ICE officers to make more arrests out in the community, which poses increased risks for law enforcement and the public."

President Donald Trump's administration has stepped up enforcement of immigration laws in California as an effort to pressure sanctuary cities.

Armed carjacking suspect, 21, is shot dead by a 24-year-old driver with a concealed gun

A 21-year-old carjacking suspect was shot dead in Milwaukee early Monday when police say his intended victim put to use his concealed gun.

Police Capt. Andra Williams says the 24-year-old man was heading to work shortly before 6am when Carlos Martin allegedly tried to rob him near Milwaukee MachineTool Corporation in the 8800 block of West Fond du Lac Avenue.

The motorist thwarted the carjacking by shooting the 21-year-old suspect with his handgun, for which he has a valid concealed carry permit, according to the authorities.

No progress for African Americans on homeownership, unemployment and incarceration in 50 years

results of voting Democrat for 50 years are in:

Fifty years after the historic Kerner Commission identified “white racism” as the key cause of “pervasive discrimination in employment, education and housing,” there has been no progress in how African Americans fare in comparison to whites when it comes to homeownership, unemployment and incarceration, according to a report by the Economic Policy Institute released on Monday.

In some cases, African Americans are worse off today than they were before the civil rights movement culminated in laws barring housing and voter discrimination as well as racial segregation.

7.5 percent of African Americans were unemployed in 2017, compared to 6.7 percent in 1968 — still roughly twice the white unemployment rate.

'They beat our a--es': Russian mercenaries talk about humiliating defeat by US in reportedly leaked

The audio recordings, in which voices can be heard saying 200 people died "right away," appear to back up reports from Reuters, Bloomberg, and the Pentagon that roughly 100 — if not more— Russians died in the fight. Reuters has cited sources as saying the advance's purpose was to test the US's response.

Russia is thought to use military contractors in Syria rather than its military — experts speculate it's to maintain deniability for acts of war and conceal the true cost of fighting from the Russian people. The Washington Post reported last week that US intelligence reports with intercepted communications showed that a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin told a senior Syrian official he "secured permission" from the Kremlin before the advance on the US forces.

The accounts in the audio also align with reports of how the battle went down, depicting an unprepared column of troops meeting an overwhelming air response before helicopter gunships strafed the remaining ones.

As country listens to Florida teens, Black Lives Matter youths feel ignored (so sad)

The young people of Black Lives Matter are hurt. And they have every right to be.

When they were protesting in the streets of cities across America, much of the country didn’t bother to listen to their message. They were not embraced by the mainstream for their bravery, their determination or resolve to bring attention to reckless police killings that disproportionately impact young African-Americans.

Some labeled them troublemakers, even terrorists. And in the aftermath of the student uprising over the mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., they are taking to social media to vent their disappointment.
“I promise y'all. I'm happy for these young people. I just know how so many young people have put their lives on the line over the past five years. We're rarely compared to Freedom Riders and recipients of such public support. I shouldn't be bothered, but I am.”

We can do this, gun control that works

I live in a state with an assault weapons and high capacity magazine ban. A handgun qualification license is required for purchases that includes mandatory training. Fingerprints and background checks are also required. I am proud to endorse mandatory prison sentences for people carrying a gun within 100 yards of a school, church, or other place of public assembly which includes most of my city.

My name is Catherine Pugh, mayor of Baltimore, and I approved this message.
