More than 150 people arrested in immigration raid on Texas business

Agents from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) arrested more than 150 people at a trailer manufacturer in north Texas based on allegations of immigration violations.

At a Tuesday news conference shortly after the raid, officials called the arrests “one of the larger work site enforcement operations conducted at one site in the past 10 years”. It comes amid a sharp increase in such raids under the Trump administration over the past year.

The raid was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a branch of Ice. Katrina Berger, the special agent in charge of HSI’s Dallas office, called the suspects “illegal aliens who are unlawfully working here in the United States at this business”.

Berger said that the raid came after receiving tips that the company, Load Trail, hired undocumented immigrants who had used fraudulent identification documents.

No bail for man charged with attempted murder in West Town sex attack

37-year-old Austin man was denied bail Wednesday and now faces an attempted murder charge in a West Town attack that left an 18-year-old woman with brain damage.

Near Ogden and Ohio avenues, surveillance cameras captured Carson running up behind the woman, grabbing her and pulling her into an alley near a construction site, Hofhiemer said. The camera also recorded audio of the woman screaming as she was pulled into the alley and screaming periodically for more than 20 minutes as she was attacked, Hofheimer said.

Near the middle of the video obtained by investigators, Carson appears at the mouth of the alley, looks around and then goes back into the alley, Hofheimer said. Later, he returned to the Blue Line station the same way he came.

The woman was found in a pool of blood by two people who were working at a construction area nearby, Hofheimer said. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

In addition to the sexual assault, the woman was severely beaten and suffered traumatic brain injury, multiple facial fractures and is in “a concussed state, unable to speak or see,” Hofheimer said.

At the time of the attack, Carson was out on bond while facing a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor out of McHenry County for allegedly masturbating in front of his girlfriend’s child, Hofheimer said.

He also has five previous felony convictions, including convictions for burglary and manufacture or delivery of heroin, Hofheimer said.

If you like what you see in Venezuela, vote Democrat

Hugo Chavez was a hero to many on the left. Where are they now Venezuela is collapsing?

There was no single moment when things went horribly wrong in Venezuela. The sitting President Nicolás Maduro is the legitimate progeny of the late Hugo Chavez, just as Stalin was the legitimate heir of Lenin.
The real transformation has occurred in the minds of the Venezuelan government's depleted band of foreign admirers. For the most part they have sunk into stupefied silence.

At one time Venezuela stood as proof that 'another world is possible', whereas today it exists as a perpetual embarrassment to the British left, the political equivalent of a bilious uncle who falls and soils himself in drink-sodden disgrace. Something unpleasant is happening but it is best not to talk about it.

More than half of immigrants on welfare

Using data from the Census Bureau’s Survey of Income and Program Participation, the study found that in 2012, 51 percent of immigrant-headed households (living here legally or illegally) reported having used at least one welfare program during the year, compared with 30 percent of native-born households.

The study factored in the following programs: Supplemental Security Income (SSI); Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF); Women, Infants, and Children food program (WIC); free or subsidized school lunches; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, previously known as the Food Stamp program); Medicaid, and public housing and rent subsidies.

Shooting clearance rates have been even more dismal in the past, according to a study that found just 5 percent of shootings in 2016 were cleared.
