Nancy caves, will vote on Senate border bill

"Reluctantly" though.

Pelosi Caves, Will Hold Vote on Senate-Passed Border-Funding Bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has agreed to hold a vote on the border funding bill passed Wednesday by the Senate, marking a defeat for the progressive members of her caucus who demanded that the bill allocate more funding toward improving conditions for detained migrants and less toward increased enforcement mechanisms.

Pelosi, in explaining her decision to support the Senate-passed bill, cited the hardships born by migrant children who have overwhelmed the Department of Health and Human Services’ ability to house and care for them.

“In order to get resources to the children fastest, we will reluctantly pass the Senate bill. As we pass the Senate bill, we will do so with a Battle Cry as to how we go forward to protect children in a way that truly honors their dignity and worth,” she said in a Thursday afternoon statement.

Democrats make U-turn on calling border a 'manufactured crisis'

Democrats have done a U-turn on their claim from earlier this year that President Trump
’s concern about illegal immigration at the southern border was a “manufactured crisis.”

Democrats now acknowledge there is a genuine humanitarian crisis and are preparing to pass legislation that would provide as much as $4.5 billion in federal aid to address the surge of migrants from Central America.

A surging number of arrests, media reports of smugglers renting children to desperate migrants to help them gain entry into the United States and stories of children dying in U.S. custody have changed the narrative.

Earlier this year, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi
(D-Calif.) accused Trump of exaggerating problems at the border to stoke fear among Americans and distract from the turmoil of his own administration.

Mass shooting in Philadelphia 10 shot

But no reports of MAGA hatted suspects so no-one really cares.

At least 10 people were wounded as bullets flew outside a strip of bars in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley overnight.

The shooting along Hamilton Street in Allentown occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, Allentown police said.

"Most, or all, of the victims had just exited the DejaVu nightclub and were standing on or near the sidewalk when the shots were fired," Allentown Police Capt. Bill Lake said.
There have been previous shootings in the nightclub area, investigators said.

Biden touts work with segregationist lawmakers in bygone era of Senate 'civility'

Former Vice President Joe Biden, in recalling the "civility" of the Senate during his days as a lawmaker in the 1970s and 1980s, on Tuesday cited his experience with two segregationist southern senators.

Speaking at a fundraiser at New York City's Carlyle Hotel, Biden brought up the names of the late Sens. James Eastland of Mississippi and Herman Talmadge of Georgia, both Democrats who were staunchly opposed to desegregation. Eastland chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee when Biden entered the Senate — a committee he would later chair.

"I was in a caucus with James O. Eastland," Biden said. "He never called me 'boy,' he always called me 'son.'"
