Yup - the topic is cell phones - in Life - cuz I sorta like life

.
Recently I had a bad car accident - worse for the vehicle than me - I'm sore, but nothing broken or bleeding.

The accident was scary - two 360's - hitting the guard rails (cables and posts) 3 times then ending up in a ditch on the opposite side of the road - quite a shaker.

Anyhow - cops and all that - (no booze, drugs texting or phone involved), but an incident on the way home in the tow truck (flatbed with car on it) added to my nervousness.

Driving the flatbed with my vehicle on it, myself in the passenger seat - the driver decided to do some texting - frigadee - my heart started to accelerate up to the level it had been while spinning around and slamming into the guardrails 3 times - he spent more time with his eyes on the cell than on the road.

I have made a decision. If anyone uses their phone while driving and I am a passenger, I will demand they pull over and let me out - I'll hitchhike thank you very much - it might be cold, but I'll be alive.

Myself - if I am driving and my phone rings, I will pull over in a safe spot to answer it, not caring if they hang up before I am parked - their phone # will be there and I can call them back if I wish.

I now watch people walking very closely - if they are using their phone, especially texting - I pretend they are a 2 year old and will wander into the roadway with no warning (it happens). Some just keep wandering across the road without ever taking their eyes off their beloved phone . . .

For being what we like to call ourselves (The Master Race) many of us are just plain fuken STOOPID!

Cell phones don't kill - STOOPID PEOPLE with cell phones kill, and get killed.

How my parents managed trips with the family (4 kids and the dawg) car vacations to the East Coast for 5 weeks every summer without a phone in the car just boggles the mind, don' it?

But we survived - WITHOUT SEAT BELTS (they were not a common item back then).

Progress - hmmmmmmm

1. Distracted driving

You are spot on, distracted driving whether technology or simple things like eating and applying makeup are serious problems.

Here in the US I see it more every day, yesterday I saw a man next to me reading the paper and eating while driving presumably with his knees....he was drifting back and forth in his lane for most of my commute...

Stopping at a light the woman in front of me rolled into the crosswalk and then locked up her brakes, thankfully no pedestrians, she didn't notice the light was red because she had her driver side sun shade down and was looking in the mirror on it to put on her lipstick.

Twice yesterday I saw someone without an EZ Pass transponder at the toll lanes backing up into oncoming traffic to change lanes because they mistakenly entered the lines that said "EZ PASS ONLY NO CASH" in 1 foot high letters in white on bright purple backgrounds....tough to see from space, not so hard to see from a quarter mile away.

If people would pull their heads out of their collective asses we could probably eliminated a third of fatalities on the highways.

3. If you are from a state that doesn't charge you to use public roads, you might not know what that

EZ PASS ONLY NO CASH, means, so you take the short line. Especially if the arrows painted on the pavement direct you that way. Kansas, I am looking at you.

Once was enough. I know better now.

2. I can recall picking up 2 of my newborn daughters...

At the hospital and placing them in a car bed on the back seat of my '65 VW bug, and driving away waving at the nurses..
There were NO belts anywhere in the car...!!!

4. I am on the road for a living. We have a slogan...

Slogans are corny, but this one is a good reminder.

What's important now?

Slow down, wear your seat belt, and put the phone up.
