Abraham's wife, of course, was his half sister. So, he didn't really have to wander all that far away from his/their parents. And, when a ruler desired Abraham's sister-wife (as opposed to sister wife), Abraham denied he was married to her, leaving her to fend for herself against the ruler (who, I am guessing, then had his way with her which Abraham could have avoided if he had placed his own fear above his wife's safety). And then, Abraham slept with his slave...until his wife finally gave him a son. He then tried to offer his son with his wife to God as a human sacrifice. Meanwhile, he turned his female slave and their infant son out of his home to find for themselves. Guess what their chances were back then?

Anyway, that is but one Biblical family story of many, but no actual Biblical definition of family.

ETA: BTW, chapter and verse would be Genesis 2:24 (KJV)
