foia-cahontas? [View all] had a special last month so I bought a kit and mailed them some spit today.

Here are the results I expect based on what I know of my family history:

From my mom's side: She was 50/50 so I'm 25% Swedish, 25% Norwegian since her grandparents came from those two nationalities and immigrated to northern Minnesota in the mid to late 1800s.

From my dad's side:

Maternal: AlI I know there is that my great grandfather was born in Brown County, Indiana in 1858 and my great grandmother was born in Ohio in 1865. My grandmother was white so I expect that side of the family to be Euro-mutt. (Combination of European ancestry.)

Paternal: My grandfather was born (1882) and raised near Dandridge, Tennessee. My grandfather's family has a very long history in TN. One of my dad's cousins has been into genealogy for a long time and here's some of the stuff I know from past contacts with her:

I know that I have both French and British/Scottish blood from way back.

One of my male ancestors served in The Revolutionary War and later another served in The Civil War. (On The Union side IIRC. Although TN was the last state to secede there was still a lot of pro-Union sentiment there.)

I also have some Cherokee blood. I have a documented male Cherokee ancestor at some point. I THINK I'm something like 1/16 or 1/32 but I'm not really sure. Curiosity about how much injun blood I really have is one of the things that prompted me to do this.

In theory this might qualify me for me for casino money and other benefits. However, although my ancestor's life is documented in some respects he did not participate in the 18xx Census which, from my understanding, is how tribal affiliation is legally determined.

I'll report back with the results when I get them.
