So I bought a LG refrigerator over the weekend. Reading the manual, theres a Sabbath Mode which disables the ice and water dispenser, all alerts and the instaview window (view that electronically dims and lights) for 96 hours. Anyone ever use this? If so why?

Im feeling triggered, wheres muh Black Sabbath mode?

Took a doe this weekend so 2020 is off to a great start

110# on the hoof. I’m about to bone her out. Back straps and tenderloins are prepped for the grill. Everything else is headed to the grinder for summer sausage and jalapeño sausage.

Bought my 4th Jeep last Saturday

Rubicon Unlimited with a turbocharged 2.0-liter eTorque 270 hp / 295 ft-lb (inline-four with a mild hybrid system). Went with soft top this go around. This engine pulls harder than any of the Jeeps I've owned. Time will tell how it holds up, but it's sure fun stop light to stop light. I won't get it off-road until I go hunting later this fall.

Survived a summer consumed by a corporate relocation

Transfer offer came first week of May. Three months later to the day we closed on our new home. Relocation package covered all temporary housing, closing costs, packing, crating, moving and storage. They kicked in $5k to cover miscellaneous expenses. All the benefits are grossed up to cover the income tax consequences.

May and June were spent readying our house for sale. We put about $11k in updates: new carpet, fresh paint, new shower door, updated plumbing fixtures, cedar fencing and a new roof. The roof was a fortunate hail damage claim, but I had $4k deductible.

Listed our house first week in July and had and open house and six showings. Those generated three offers and a minor bidding war. We went under contract six days after listing. All told the money we spent readying the house added roughly 40k to the selling price over comparable homes in our area.

With our house under contract we took the kids to the Dallas suburbs and spend four days house hunting. We found a great house. One story, with a home theater (4K projector, 10’ movie screen and 7.2 surround sound) and full bath upstairs. It also came with an amazing outdoor kitchen finished in sandstone, with built in gas and ceramic grills, a fireplace with a flat screen mounted above the mantle.

My only regret with our new home is that I traded a four car garage for a dinky little two car garage. My pickup* is never going to see the inside again. Otherwise the new home is quite an upgrade from our previous house in fit and finish.

Would you buy a home with foundation repairs?

Relocating for work and found the perfect home. The problem is that it had $8000 in foundation repair work a few years back. Concret slab foundation on a sloping lot with retaining walls supporting one side of the home. Oh and the area has expansive clay soil. Yea or nay?

Militia threat shuts down Oregon Statehouse amid walkout

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Capitol will be closed Saturday due to a "possible militia threat" from right-wing protesters as a walkout by Republican lawmakers over landmark climate change legislation drags on.

Republican state senators fled the Legislature — and some, the state — earlier this week to deny the majority Democrats enough votes to take up the climate bill, which would dramatically reduce fossil fuel emissions by 2050. It would be the second program of its kind in the nation after California if passed.

Gov. Kate Brown then dispatched the state police to round up the rogue lawmakers, but none appeared in the Capitol on Friday and the stalemate seemed destined to enter its third day with a week left in the legislative session.

Right-wing groups posted their support for the GOP lawmakers Friday on social media — in one instance offering to provide escorts to them should the state police come for them.

A group of local Republicans were set to protest inside the Capitol on Saturday when lawmakers were present, and anti-government groups threatened to join, prompting the statehouse shutdown.

One of the groups, the Oregon Three Percenters, joined an armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in 2016. Dozens of people occupied the remote Oregon refuge for more than a month to protest federal control of Western lands. The standoff began to unravel when authorities fatally shot the group's spokesman and arrested key leaders as they headed to a community meeting.

"The Oregon State Police has recommended that the Capitol be closed tomorrow due to a possible militia threat," Carol Currie, spokeswoman for Senate President Peter Courtney, said in an e-mail to The Associated Press late Friday. https://news.yahoo.com/militia-threat-shuts-down-oregon-041210982.html

72 Philadelphia Police Officers Placed On Desk Duty Over Offensive Social Media Posts

The Philadelphia Police Department has pulled 72 officers off their regular duties as authorities investigate inflammatory social media posts revealed in a database that found thousands of offensive postings by current and former officers, the city's police commissioner said Wednesday.

Police officials in Philadelphia are describing the action as the largest removal of officers from the street in recent memory.
"We are equally as disgusted by many of the posts that you saw and in many cases, the rest of the nation saw," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross.

It is the latest fallout since the advocacy group The Plain View Project earlier this month released thousands of Facebook posts and comments by current and former police officers that range from racist memes, to posts celebrating violence and messages containing Islamophobic themes, among other offensive material.

Deer Park man shoots son, then has a father-son talk before stabbing him to death

-snip-
"(Fricks) stated that he had called law enforcement on (his son) in the past, but they were never able to fix it," a prosecutor said. "So today, he decided to fix it."

Just the day before, the son had broken his phone, so Fricks took him to a local electronics store to get it fixed, prosecutors said. On the way home, the son began kicking the back of the front passenger seat where the father's girlfriend was sitting, Fricks told detectives.

Then, around 11 a.m. Sunday, Fricks armed himself with a .380 pistol and sat in wait while his son went to get fast food for lunch, prosecutors said. As the son walked into their home in the 1300 block of Meadowlark Street, Fricks asked him what he had ordered.

"(Fricks) stated that he was prepared to shoot (his son) in the back, and that was his plan," prosecutors said. "He stated (his son) made the smart remark and turned to him. (Fricks) just started shooting him until nothing else came out of the handgun. After the shooting, (his son) was still alive."

As his son was dying on the floor, Fricks initiated a "father-son" conversation with him, according to court records. After about 20 minutes, the son reportedly grabbed his father by the arm, at which point the father – already armed with a kitchen knife – stabbed him several times, prosecutors said.
