A Yes or No will do...

...there are many militarily proficient people here on DI...answer me this,

Do we have the technology to have fooled the radar, of the older Russian/Iranian surface to air missile that shot down the Iranian civilian airliner, into believing that airliner was a U.S. military aircraft?

Why shortwave radio today?

I bought my Panasonic RF 2200 new in the 1970's mainly to hear international broadcasts. Back during the Cold War if you wanted to know how the Soviet Union was responding or reacting to current events you'd tune in to Radio Moscow. Or the BBC for Britain or Radio Beijing, or Radio Havana, etc.

Since the threat of nuclear war was real and omnipresent, keeping up with current events was important. But since the advent of the internet, shortwave radio seems to have lost it's way. It's seems to have become much less important and/or is fizzling out. Today, If you want to know immediately what, let's say Germany is thinking, you'd click on DW.

I was listening to my radio the other day when my grandson asked me about my old radio and what I was doing. I was explaining the history of shortwave when it got me thinking, "What is the importance of shortwave today?" I couldn't answer the question.

If you still listen to shortwave, why? I don't see much there anymore.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Christmas is just a few days away and I would like to wish all the good people on DI a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As a Christian, I find myself celebrating Christmas this year with a little more sadness due to our current political situation.

Our country is divide as ever over President Trump. Good people on both sides feel strongly. But not everyone can be right. As a Christian with a strong moral compass, I find myself sadly supporting our President's impeachment and removal from office like my fellow Christians at Christianity Today.

I hope the New Year will bring our country peace and a new beginning and unity. We'll have to work at it but I think it can be done. On one hand, Christians everywhere want to see peace and harmony, on the other, we can't keep sweeping immorality under the carpet.

trumpy meaness everywhere

I cleaned up my 50 year old Panasonic RF 2200 (I love that radio), bought a new set of 'D' batteries and sat down to listen to some anticipated Christmas songs...surprise, surprise

...guess what I heard

"I want to wish you a Merry Christmas, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart...grease your knobby rod, grease your knobby rod..."...?

...why would anyone say that in a Christmas song?...and a few minutes later

"ho ho the mistle toe hung for all to see, somebody waits for you, kick her once for me...have a holly jolly..."

...kicking women is bad and something trump would do on Christmas; it's just not right...I tuned around when this little boy wanted to play his drum

"...come they told me, to rough up a bum, rough up a bum, rough up a bum..." is it Christian to encourage children to harm people on Christmas?....then niece Carol (who's a little over weight), said she found, "...candles in the windows, Carol's at the spinach..." a little offensive considering she's lost 15 pounds since September...(she hates spinach)

...again, trumpy meaness everywhere...I told her what I think is happening is trump's corrosive meaness is permeating even holiday songs and is ruinning our happy holiday season...

...she's now a never-trumper...
